Camping Simuni

Camping Simuni

Camping Šimuni is located in the middle of a small paradise in Europe, on the island of Pag. Imagine beautiful pebble beaches and the crystal blue waters of the Adriatic. The underwater world here is matchless, countless fish swim around freely here. The campground is located on the southern side of the island, on the coast of Croatia. That is near the fishing village of the same name, Šimuni. Don’t expect an urban area here, but almost untouched nature. Stroll here past the oldest olive trees in the world and enjoy the sunshine on one of the six beaches that are easily accessible from the campground.

Location and environment

Camping Šimuni is thus located on the island of Pag. The island is connected to the mainland by a bridge, so you can definitely come here with your caravan. There are certainly boats from the mainland to Pag as well. The nearest airport is in Zadar. There are direct flights from Maastricht – Aachen.

Is the island a paradise? It is, to say the least, a special island that truly feels like a distant, tropical vacation. The oldest olive trees grow here, there are plenty of pine trees and the beaches consist of small pebbles. There are not many villages or towns, which makes it primarily a sun destination. Twenty kilometers north is Novalja, which certainly has its charms. Is it bad that this place is mostly about nature anyway and not so much about any nearby towns? Not directly. The campground has plenty to offer, as do the beaches.

Pitches

Camping Šimuni can safely be called a large campsite, with 1160 pitches. Of these, 714 are tourist sites, that is, for caravan or tent. In fact, its shady nature, due to the many pine and olive trees, makes it feel anything but large, and you have beach access everywhere. The campground is somewhat hilly though, with tight turns. A tractor is available to take your caravan to the right spot, which in some cases is not a luxury.

Swimming

Camping Šimuni does not (yet?) have its own swimming pool on its grounds, but that is not necessary here either: there is beach enough in the very close vicinity and the water here is lovely. Under that crystal blue water is a beautiful underwater world, so snorkeling is heartily recommended. Moreover, around Pag are numerous islets, which you can visit by boat. You can simply rent those boats at the campground and yes, such an adventurous trip is well worth it. Want to take your dog on vacation? They are welcome on certain parts of the beach.

Restaurants

There is not much to do around the campground in terms of towns. Novalja and Pag are two villages that are close in a sense, but it is still disappointing in terms of distances. Fortunately, there are plenty of choices at the campground itself. So you have restaurant Mali Raj, which calls itself “the Gourmet Mecca of the Adriatic. The restaurant has been open for over thirty years and does self-service; you can choose from about forty local, Mediterranean and international meals. At Pescaria Taveerne, you have some more fish and other seafood. Right on the beach you can still find pizzeria Kaštel and café-bar Suncokret is the main hangout. Here you can find performances, themed evenings and fireworks. At cocktail bar Mali Raj you can choose from a wide arsenal of cocktails; at Kuna Fritters you will find fritters, lemonade and other refreshments. At Pan-Pek-Bakery, there are pastries, croissants, pizzas, donuts and cookies. In short, there is no shortage of food and drink choices here. Would you rather prepare something yourself? You can use the grill park for free.
