Camping Valkanela is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful vacation destinations in Croatia. This campground is right by the Adriatic Sea, in a beautiful bay, clear sea water and a pleasant Mediterranean climate. Consequently, the region is known for its many hours of sunshine. This combined with the cozy towns, bustling villages, Mediterranean culture and nature is the recipe for an unforgettable vacation.
Because of its numerous amenities, Camping Valkanela has become a popular place for many Dutch vacationers. A place where children can play endlessly and adults can enjoy a well-deserved vacation! The campground features a variety of lodging options. Think fully equipped camping pitches and luxury mobile homes with a shared pool. It is also incredibly close to the beach and also has a large pool complex.
In all, there are about 2,000 camping spots. It has an upscale feel and is generally very clean and neat. Thanks to the many facilities, staying at Camping Valkanela sometimes feels just like a small village. If you are looking for a small, quiet campsite, this one is less suitable. However, if you are looking for a lively campground with lots of facilities and entertainment then you are in the right place! Your final camping spot at the campground can also make quite a difference. Although all pitches are nice and spacious (80 to 12o m2), some are on a “busy” thoroughfare, or right next to one of the facilities, for example. Others lie a lot quieter again. There are many trees (including beautiful palms, olive trees and fig trees) so most spots offer plenty of shade. Dogs are allowed on a leash and there are special beaches where dogs are allowed.
This campground is located right along the Adriatic Sea surrounded by beautiful nature, clear sea water and a pleasant Mediterranean climate with many hours of sunshine. Near Camping Valkanela there are a number of beautiful villages namely Vrsar, Poreč and Rovinj. In Vrsar, for example, there is an incredibly pleasant boulevard, which can be easily reached on foot within half an hour. The campground is located on one of the most beautiful areas of the Istrian coastline. Bustling Poreč is 10 km away, which is about a 15-minute drive from the campsite. Rovinj is a half-hour drive away.
For nature lovers, the area along the Adriatic coastline is undoubtedly known for the magnificent Brijuni Islands. Especially the national park of this island is a tourist attraction. There are also numerous stalactite caves, which are definitely worth a visit.
Are you staying at Camping Valkanela in Croatia this summer? Then you will enjoy a magnificent view of Vrsar and the nearby islands. Moreover, from the campground you can be on the beach in no time. The rocky and pebbly beaches of Croatia are often very beautiful, but less comfortable for small children and disabled persons, among others. Nevertheless, the adjacent beach is also partially accessible to the disabled.
Want to take a day trip with the kids during your stay? Then the aforementioned aqua park offers the most ideal opportunity for this. The brand new Aquapark Aquacolors in Poreč is about a 30-minute drive from Camping Valkanela. Here you can let the kids play for hours in the brand-new swimming paradise, so that you yourself as parents can relax for a while.

Of course, you can enjoy swimming in the beautiful bay at Camping Valkanela. In fact, the campground is located directly on a 3-kilometer-long beach. The beach has a “Blue Flag,” which is an international symbol of a clean beach with clean seawater. The azure water here is really fantastic. The beach is a pebble beach, so it is definitely recommended to bring water shoes.
For children there is in the sea and floating play park. This is a kind of obstacle course and climbing tower in the water. Good for hours of playtime fun!
Because of the pebbly beach, do you prefer not to swim in the sea? Then just take a refreshing dip in one of the pools in the pool complex. The pools are right behind the beach, so you can also easily combine the two. There are three different pools:
Toddler pool with a depth of 25cm, here the smallest children can play safely in the water. A small slide in the shape of an elephant is great fun for toddlers.
Junior pool with diving board and a depth of 0.90m to 3.40m. This pool has a large depth difference and is perfect for making bombs from the diving board.
Adult pool with a length of 50 meters (depth 1.35m), ideal for swimming laps.
Got a craving for an ice-cold drink in between? Even then you are in luck because the pool bar is located right by pools. Both the beach and the pool offer the possibility of renting sunbeds and umbrellas. The advantage of this is because of this there are always sunbeds free. So at this campground, you won’t be bothered by “towel laying” as soon as the pool opens.
Camping Valkanela features a variety of restaurants, bars and other dining options. For example, the Pool Bar offers a wide selection of drinks, cocktails and snacks. For drinks and snacks, you can also visit one of the three fast food restaurants located along the beach.
On the beach you will find the Smrikva Grill. A true total experience where your taste buds are tickled by delicious dishes straight from the barbecue. This restaurant is also known for its delicious pastas and salads paired with carefully selected Istrian wines. The prices of this restaurant are on the high side, though.
Next to the pool is the cozy restaurant Kantineta. This is a great place for a quick and light meal in the afternoon, for example. In addition, Kantineta restaurant offers a wide selection of salads, pizzas, burgers, lasagna and other snacks. You can also have a great time here in the evening. Enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner combined with the beautiful ambiance of the pool.
Camping Valkanela has an animation team that organizes all kinds of fun activities throughout the day. There is a mini-club for children between the ages of 4 and 11, but there is also a special program for teenagers. Daytime activities include sports competitions, crafts, dancing, aerobics, etc. But there are also excursions and workshops such as learning Croatian or visiting a local attraction. In the evenings there is a mini disco for the children, and talent shows or cabaret performance, for example.
As a sports enthusiast, you’ll also have plenty to do at Camping Valkanela. Thus, there are several opportunities at the campground to indulge. Consider activities such as bike tours, hiking trails and even tennis is available on one of the tennis courts.
There is also the option of playing a game of miniature golf or beach volleyball. Water sports enthusiasts can also participate in various activities at Camping Valkanela. For example, you can rent a canoe or jet ski and have a great time sailing on the sea. Are you more in the mood for thrills? Then be sure to take the banana boat!
For all those who prefer to go out for the day, it is possible to make various (cultural) trips from the campsite. Consider a trip to one of the picturesque villages, or a day at the popular Aquacolors water park.
And what could be better than diving in Croatia’s clear blue sea water? There’s a diving school around the campground, so that’s really ideal. Not yet in possession of your diving license? With a 2/3 day course you can get your PADI without having to leave the campsite!
Children are also sure to expend their energy at the campground. Besides the pools and table tennis tables, the trampolines and playgrounds are sure to take care of this. Would the kids prefer something else anyway? Then the animation team at Valkanela will make sure they are entertained with numerous activities such as talent shows, sports tournaments and other workshops, for example.
Although there is a lot on offer, the downside is that many activities (such as ping pong, trampoline jumping, the water park, etc.) require additional payment. Especially for children, this is not nice.
There is a small supermarket at Camping Valkanela. There is also a bakery where you can get delicious fresh breads and rolls. There is also a greengrocer with fresh fruits and vegetables.
If you are looking for a bigger/cheaper supermarket, you can go to supermarket Plodine in Funtana (about 5 minutes by car). Within walking distance is also a bakery. this one sits across from Dinopark Funtana.
Within walking distance of the campground is Dinopark Funtana. Highly recommended for those who love dinosaurs, especially children aged 3 to 10. It is an extensive dinopark with many large dinos, attractions and shows.
This campground has its own jetty.
Are you looking for a mobile home? Some providers have mobile homes at Valkanela with a Jacuzzi (Deluxe Mobile Homes) or a small communal pool (Premium Mobile Homes). The latter is really ideal if you want to cool off quickly without having to go to the big pool. It is also very nice that the children can swim and you can keep an eye on them from your own mobile home.
