At the small-scale four-star Camping Le Méditerranée-Plage in Vias Plage you will enjoy a very nice vacation right by the Mediterranean Sea. At the reception desk a very warm welcome awaits you, in Dutch. In addition to information about your camping pitch or rental accommodation, you will also receive an information booklet from the campsite containing many useful tips and the entertainment program. Fun day trips are also shared directly with you. Camping Le Méditerranée-Plage is a real family campground where you can have a great time all day long by the pools, on the beach or in the large playground. But there is also plenty to do and see outside the campsite.
The water park at the front of the campground was recently renovated and is the place your kids won’t want to leave. There are fun slides, several pools and don’t forget the “Stop & Go River.” The children (but you too) will want to get rid of this over and over again. In addition, there is a very fun and varied entertainment program. In the evening, take a seat on the cozy terrace while you enjoy the mini disco, a quiz, foam party or performance. Then head to the pub, which is open until 02:00. Thanks to all the facilities available at the campsite, such as the restaurants, supermarket, bakery and bar, you have everything you need at your fingertips.
In addition, the beach and the Mediterranean Sea are directly adjacent to Camping Le Méditerranée-Plage. There are a few beach entrances where you can walk right onto the beautiful sandy beach. Playing, sunbathing or swimming: you can do it all here. And walk 10 minutes along the beach and you are in the cozy village of Portiragnes Plage. Every weekday in high season there is a nice market here where you can buy (fresh) local products, souvenirs and trinkets. You will also find a somewhat larger supermarket here.

Camping Le Méditerranée Plage is located in Vias Plage, a popular seaside resort in the south of France. Located in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, Vias Plage has a fine combination of beaches, culture, nature and good food. From the campground you walk directly onto the beautiful expansive sandy beach of Vias Plage and if you walk 10 minutes further, you’ll end up in Portiragnes Plage. But you are also close to all kinds of nice other villages and towns. Do realize that except to Portiragnes Plage, you need a car to go anywhere. Right around the campground there is not that much to do.
In Vias Plage itself is France’s largest open amusement park, Europark Vias. Furthermore, there is a nice promenade, where it is very touristy though. Nevertheless, you will find many restaurants where you can eat good food and nice stores for shopping. The lively village of Cap d’Agde is also nearby, known for its sandy beaches, marina, Aqualand water park and vibrant nightlife.
Other great destinations include the beautiful cities of Béziers, Agde, Sète and Montpellier. Béziers is a medieval village whose main attraction is the Saint Nazaire Cathedral, a magnificent Gothic cathedral with beautiful views of the surrounding area. The city park in Béziers is also recommended for a nice walk, fun playgrounds and a waterfall. Thanks to the many restaurants and cafes, there are plenty of places to relax for a while.
Another attraction around Vias Plage is the Canal du Midi and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built between 1667 and 1694, this historic canal connects the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Explore the locks, aqueducts, bridges and tunnels on foot or by bike. At Camping Le Méditerranée Plage, you can rent bikes!
The nine locks of Fonséranes are also a must-see. Ships are raised or lowered by a sluice ladder here which is interesting to watch. You can take a walk along the waterfront where you can see even more traditional buildings.
Camping Le Méditerranée Plage still has camping spots available. These are almost all located together, fairly at the front of the campground and close to amenities. You will experience the real camping feeling, while being able to enjoy all the facilities offered at Camping Le Méditerranée Plage. There is only one type of pitch and it is spacious enough for your caravan, camper or your tent. There is 10 amps of electricity included as standard. Get water at one of the shared water points. The surface of the pitches is not the same everywhere. It may be that your surface is made of pebbles, we did not like this very much. You may also experience nuisance from visitors returning from the campsite bar, or walking along the beach path.
There are three washrooms scattered throughout the campground. They are all not very large and we also found the plumbing to be somewhat mediocre. The showers have no bench or trash can, sometimes got too hot without being able to adjust it, and the toilets did not always flush well. A little modernization and more cleaning of the plumbing would not be a luxury. The two toilet buildings also serve as restrooms for guests at the stage and beach guests.
However, there is a separate area for the children’s bathroom and this looked very nice & cared for. The sinks, and toilets are at children’s height and the showers are also adapted for children. There are also baby baths here with plenty of changing space for the little ones.
The dishwashing areas were on the outside of the washrooms. Near the supermarket you will find the laundry room with washing machines and tumble dryers. You can borrow an iron for free at the reception desk.
Camping Le Méditerranée-Plage is a good choice if you are looking for a fine family campsite with beautiful rental accommodations. The campground offers different types of rental accommodations in all price ranges. So you can rent a comfortable, simple mobile home but you will also find one of the most luxurious mobile homes in Roan‘s range, the Premium Plus Lounge. There are several swimming pools at Camping Le Méditerranée-Plage. At the front of the campsite you will find the nicest (heated) pools and the slides. The water park here consists of two pools, slides and a separate paddling pool. The larger pool near the entrance is also where the water activities of the animation team are organized. Also, there is often music on which gives a nice atmosphere. If you want to go to the other pool, you can do so on foot, but you can also use the “Stop & Go” river: this is a super fun slide that you slide down on your belly, stopping halfway to continue on afterwards. You can then choose to jump into the second pool the or climb out and run back to the beginning to go right back in. We are sure the latter happens most often, at least by the kids because they love it! It’s just that extra something that makes the water park at Camping Le Méditerranée-Plage even more fun!
The second pool is a somewhat quieter pool, with a small island in the middle and a little bridge you can swim under. The pool slowly deepens, allowing smaller children to play in front and where you can play a game of ball.
There are more than enough sunbeds around both pools. We also did not experience “towel-layers,” so you actually always had a lounger to lie on. At the second pool you also have some elevations where the sunbeds are.
If you want to slide down a slide, this water park is also the place to be. The slides are a bit hidden in a corner, but don’t make them any less fun. There is a nice circular slide and a couple of pentagliss slides. The kids are guaranteed to have a lot of fun here. The slides do close for a few hours between noon.
There is a separate pool with play equipment for toddlers and preschoolers. A fence was placed around it for added security. There are also sunbeds for parents to relax on.
There is a small bar by the pool where you can buy drinks and ice creams.
At the back of the campground is a third pool, “Zen” with hot tub, and this pool is more for adults. Here the idea is not to not make bombs or play with balls. It is a lot smaller and only interesting if you are staying at Camping Le Méditerranée-Plage as a couple, for example.
Please note that male visitors are required to wear tight swim trunks.
As mentioned earlier, from the campsite you have direct access to the beautiful sandy beach of the Mediterranean Sea. You walk up steps to the beach and have a wide sandy beach to lay down your towel. If you want to reach the beach with a wheelchair or stroller, there is a separate walkway. In high season, lifeguards are on hand to keep an eye on things. Through the beach you also walk to Portiragnes Plage where there is also a nice beach bar.
Since 2022, this campground also has a wellness area with a private spa, sauna and hammam. With up to 6 people, you can book the spa and enjoy heat, bubbles and a steam room. Book a massage (for a fee) or a free yoga class for a nice moment of relaxation for yourself.
There are two restaurants at Camping Le Méditerranée-Plage. At Café-Restaurant La Caramote, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dish of the day or afternoon snack or a cup of coffee or other drink. This café can be found in the section in front of the supermarket and swimming pool. There is a nice terrace but you can also sit inside if you like. There is a relaxed atmosphere and you can visit between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The Ice Cream Parlor is also part of this and it really comes highly recommended because you order incredibly delicious, fresh, Italian ice cream here!
Le Gourmed restaurant is open from 6 p.m. every day. You will find this restaurant next to the bar and stage, a little further on the campground. You can order all kinds of delicious things, from meat and fish dishes to burgers, salads and pizzas. There is an indoor seating area, but of course there is also a terrace. If you dine a little later, you can combine your dinner with the mini-disco or the evening show. In fact, the terrace overlooks the stage.
The bar is also located here so this is where you go for a nice drink, ice cream or something to eat. The menu is quite extensive (see photos) but think tasty (special) beers, cocktails, various (scoop) ice creams and sundaes, crepes, waffles and tapas appetizers. It is a nice place to sit on the terrace and enjoy the evening shows. Inside are also a variety of gaming machines, such as a pool table, air field hockey and grappling machines.
And if you want to stay up even longer and have a dance, you should also be in the bar because that will be the Night Bar. Between 00:00 and 02:00, partying is possible.
If you prefer to pick up some food, go to the Traiteur next to the pool. Here you buy the tastiest fresh paella, lasagnes and roast chicken. But they also have salads and other delicacies.
If you want to make life totally easy for yourself during your vacation at Camping Le Méditerranée-Plage book the half board package. Your breakfast and dinner will be arranged for you, how nice is that!
The animation at Camping Le Méditerranée-Plage is really top notch. There is a very full program with lots of different types of activities. There is a large, enthusiastic, animation team that has devised a program for all ages. There is the Mini Club, especially for 4-7 year olds, a Kids Club for 8 to 12 year olds and a Teens Club for children aged 13 to 17.
At the Mini Club, they get creative with workshops, crafts and fun games. At the Kids Club, there are sports activities, water games and scavenger hunts. They can also join a funtube, a tire behind a boat, for a fee. Teens can participate in sports tournaments, an Olympics or a day at the beach that includes going on a funtube, supping and a bite to eat. This day does come with a fee. The teens will also gather at the stage and bar in the evening, as there is plenty for them to do there as well.
But adults are not left out either, and there is a wide range of activities for them as well. How about fitness or circuit training, aquagym, water polo, soccer, yoga and boxing. Or participate in the daily Crazy Dance in the pool. In the evening there is a variety of entertainment on the stage. By the way, the stage is set up cozily with the terrace next to it. It gave an intimate atmosphere and a cozy feel. Concerts, pool parties, karaoke nights and quiz nights are organized. And don’t forget the foam party, this is a big party every week. The foam party already begins a bit during the mini disco that takes place before it, much to the delight of the children. They really loved this! The mini disco takes place at 9 p.m. every weekday. What we did find a little unfortunate was that the mini disco consisted of mostly French songs. They could make this a little more international.
The only disadvantage of the animation is that the members of the animation team do not speak Dutch but also almost no English. We felt this was a missed opportunity, especially since there are even Dutch speakers working at the reception desk. Although there are not super many Dutch people at the campsite either; the majority are French.
Several sports grounds are available at the campground. At the edge of the campground is the multisport court where you can play soccer and basketball. You can also play tennis there for free but the tennis court is a little hidden (through the parking lot in front of the entrance to the campsite you walk to the tennis court which is a little further away. Don’t worry about tennis rackets and balls, as you can also borrow them for free at the reception. The bocce courts were always quite crowded despite the large number of courts. Boules tournaments are also organized, should you wish to participate in them. Next to the bocce courts are a couple of table tennis tables. Near the fitness room are also two tables. At the reception you can also borrow free bocce balls, table tennis bats and balls.
If you like fitness they offer that too. However, the fitness room is quite small and basic and does not really invite hard work. There is a treadmill, rowing machine, cross trainer and some weights to work with.
There is a very large petting zoo where you can see all kinds of animals. There is also a small riding school where you can go horseback riding. And if you walk a little further, you will arrive at the Kids Club, where there is also a large playing field including a fun playground and bouncy castle. This looks very cozy, but it is on the edge of the campground so you may not let your young child(ren) walk there by themselves. Next to the reception is another small playground beyond that there are no playgrounds. Since it is not a very large campground, it would be nicer if there were some playgrounds that the children could walk to on their own. Because that’s what this campground is for.
The area lends itself well to exploring by bicycle. On Camping Le Méditerranée-Plage there is a bike rental where you can rent bikes, so you don’t have to bring your own.
The selection of fresh products in the supermarket at Camping Le Méditerranée-Plage is very large. There are lots of fruits and vegetables for sale, the butcher has delicious fresh meat (marinated or not and perfect for your bbq) and in addition, there is a fairly large selection of the tastiest, fresh, tapas appetizers that you pay for by weight. Also other fresh ready-to-eat appetizers, such as potato and vegetable dishes. The selection of perishables was not very large, except for drinks, etc. However, you can tap your own wine and sangria from large tanks there; bring your own bottle, or buy one there, and fill it with the wine you like.
Through the supermarket you walk into the bazaar, where they have a very large selection of fun (water) toys, magazines & newspapers (French- and German-language), postcards, souvenirs, sweets and gift items. Here you can also buy local products such as honey, jams and other delicacies.
At the bakery you get delicious fresh bread, croissants, chocolate rolls as well as tasty pastries and cakes all day long.
Furthermore, every day there is a small market in the square near the reception, where you can buy all kinds of souvenirs and gift items such as bags. In addition, once a week there is a stall where you can get your hair braided.
Should you wish to get a haircut during your vacation, you can also do so at Camping Le Méditerranée-Plage.
Camping Le Méditerranée-Plage is very environmentally conscious. The information booklet contains lots of tips on how to deal with waste, energy and water as well as how to be environmentally conscious in restaurants. In this way, they want to reduce their impact on the climate and motivate you to contribute to it. So you get special bins to separate your waste. You can dispose of the GFT waste in the large compost pile at the front of the campsite and the rest in the various waste bins.
In addition, there is a very wide range of charging stations where you can charge your electric car. These are at the front of the entrance.
Opposite the bakery is an ATM.
For a very relaxing vacation, book the half-board package and slide in for breakfast and dinner. In 2023, it cost €185.50 per week for adults and €95.50 for children (up to 12 years old).
