As part of Sandaya campsites, you know that Camping Château des Marais is a gem. This 5-star campsite is located in the middle of the wooded area of the Loire Valley, just 700 km from Utrecht. This also makes it a perfect transit campsite to the south of France or beyond. The campground itself is already a small forest, covering 14 acres. And yet it is a small and cozy campground with just over 300 sites. The fairytale mansion in the middle of the grounds provides a fantastic picture and immediately gives the campground a lot of atmosphere. The four pools make the campground suitable for the whole family, and children will enjoy the slides and all the other activities. There is more than enough to do in the immediate vicinity of the campsite in the Loire region, which is a Unesco World Heritage Site. Such as beautiful nature, many castles, one of the best zoos in the world and great biking and hiking trails.
Camping Château des Marais is located in the beautiful region of The Loire, on a wooded park of no less than 14 hectares. As you drive into the campground, the beautiful mansion in the middle of the grounds immediately catches your eye. It is an orderly, green and flat campground and gives you a nice and peaceful feeling. The campground also has a fishing pond, for the fishing enthusiasts among us. When checking in, the children received a coloring book and sticker sheet and the parents receive a comprehensive information booklet with all the information about the campsite and surroundings, also available in Dutch!
The Loire region belongs to the Unesco World Heritage Site and is mainly known for its fantastic castles. In addition, you will find beautiful river landscapes, lovely old villages and you can eat and drink delicious food. The Loire Valley makes up the largest wine region in France! There are more than 300 opportunities to taste local wine, such as a Sauvignon Blanc or the Pinot Noir. In addition, the Loire Valley is known for its wonderful biking and hiking opportunities.
Chambord Castle and its French gardens are well worth a visit and are just 500 meters from Camping Château des Marais. In Chambord, you can also go to a horse and falconry show between April and September. Another must is a visit to the city of Blois. You will find a castle and a beautiful historic center. Want to visit a zoo? The Beauval Zoo is counted as one of the best 5 zoos in the world, so it is definitely worth a day trip! If you would like to visit a city, Orleans and Tours are nearby. And if you like local markets: you’ve come to the right place! There is a market to visit almost every day in the nearby area.
At the small tourist office in the campground, you can get more information about what to do in the area.
Located just south of Paris, it is suitable as a stopover on the way to southern France or Spain.
Camping Château des Marais has two different pitches, one of 90m2 and one of 120m2. In each spot you have access to water and electricity. The shaded sites are flat and grassy and offer plenty of space for your tent, caravan, trailer or camper van(s).
There are two plumbing buildings that are never far from your pitch. The plumbing is very clean and very modern. In addition, it smells wonderfully fresh. There are plenty of showers in each bathroom building, as well as a family shower and even a children’s pool.
There is also a service station for caravans and campers.
Right by the sanitary building you will find the washing-up areas; there are plenty of them. Washers and dryers are also located in this building. You can get started right away and pay at the machines. Running a wash costs €6 and for the dryer you pay €3.
Only downside to the pitches we found was that there was little lighting. It was very dark there at night. A light is not a luxury if you went to use the sanitary building in the dark.
There is a very cool treehouse where you can stay, with two bedrooms separated by a large terrace in the middle. And that at 3 meters above the ground! This treehouse is in the middle of the campground and offers a great view. Please note that there is no running water in the treehouse, so you will have to use the sanitary building.
There are also mobile homes and cottages for rent, in many different designs. These spacious, modern and luxurious accommodations look top notch. All have a wooden veranda with a picnic table and deck chairs. Large and luxurious safari tents have also recently become available. These are fully furnished and have 2 bedrooms, a (luxury) bathroom and a spacious wooden veranda with picnic table and deck chairs.
The various accommodations are mixed together, with pitches around them. This gives a play effect and keeps it from being a “row” campsite. By the way, the safari tents do stand together in a street.
You can cool off in the water park at Château des Marais. There are several slides and a lagoon. Soak in the rapids river. There is also a swimming pool that can be roofed over in inclement weather. For the little ones there is a special paddling pool and you can swim laps in the lane pool. All the pools are heated! In between all the water fun, rest on one of the poolside loungers.
The entire water park is fenced, so you don’t have to worry about your little one getting close to the water alone from the campsite.
Please note that swim shorts are prohibited! And children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
There is also a spa and wellness area at the campground! Enjoy the sauna, hammam, hot tub and relaxation room. Access to the wellness area costs €20 for the first two people, for 1 hour. Each additional person pays €10 per hour. In addition, you can book various treatments, such as massage. Prices for these start from €60 per person. You come home wonderfully relaxed.
The campground has a bar, restaurant and snack bar. At the bar you have a nice view of the castle and the pool. You can go there for a delicious ice cream sundae or a nice cocktail. If you prefer to eat at your own accommodation, you can get a takeaway from the snack bar. You can choose from a variety of pasta dishes, pizzas and burgers. At the restaurant you have a wide choice of à la carte dishes.
Children will have a great time at Camping Château des Marais! There is something for every age. There is a Kids Club from 5 to 7 years old, a Juniors Club from 8 – 12 years old and a Teens Club especially for teens between the ages of 13 and 17. There is a special room with a pool table, foosball tables, air field hockey and a pinball machine. You can also chill out on the couch.
All sorts of things are organized, such as dance classes, aqua gym, craft activities and sports tournaments. There is also a bouncy castle for children ages 3 to 14. In addition, there is a mini disco in the evening. When we were at this campground in the preseason, the mini disco was a bit disappointing. But the children were able to take pictures with the mascot. For the older teenager, there may be a little less to do at this campground.
You can have a great time at this campground. There are a number of playgrounds on the property. There is a tennis court, including loan of rackets and balls for 10 euros per hour. You can also indulge in a game of miniature golf. Children can rent go-karts there. We did find this quite pricey, which we thought was a small minus point. There is also a table tennis table, a game room, a multi-sports court and you can play a game of bocce. A small sports garden is also available.
To best explore the area get on your bike. Cycling is wonderful here and there are numerous bike routes available. At the campground you can rent (electric) bicycles for both adults and children. Prices start from €16 per day, children’s bikes are cheaper (from €12 per day). Child seats for the back of bikes are also available. Or take a nice walk in the Loire region.
Near the campsite you will find the river The Loire: rent a kayak or canoe to further explore the beautiful surroundings and enjoy the magnificent views.
A supermarket is available for (small) groceries. Think fruits, vegetables, beverages, frozen foods, etc. You can also find a small selection of local produce here. You can also buy freshly baked bread and sweet breakfast and coffee sandwiches in the morning. You cannot place a reservation, unfortunately. There is also an assortment of swimming and water items and souvenirs.
Other stores and supermarkets can be found in the villages of Muides-sur-Loire and Mer.
This is also a perfect transit campground to southern France or beyond. Château des Marais is located just south of Paris, making it suitable for a (first) stopover.
Wifi is available, but for a fee. The first 30 consecutive minutes are free (per device), after that the cost is as follows= 1 day: €5. 3 days: €7.50, 7 days: €15, 15 days: €25. A Premium Rental includes 3 free Wifi codes (for 3 devices). For more than 3 devices, you have to pay extra.
Gas and charcoal barbecues are allowed. You can even rent a barbecue for a small fee.
Wearing a camping bracelet is mandatory.
There is a tourist information office at the campground.
A charging station is available at the campground.
There are so-called “bio-buckets” available to separate your organic waste directly.
Dogs are allowed at this campground. You are required to book them as extras. Not all dog breeds are allowed: 1st and 2nd category dogs are prohibited (purebred Tosa, American Staffordshireterrier) and rottweilers and crossbreeds that look similar in appearance, incl. Mastiffs (“Boerboel”).
