Five-star campsite La Vallée is located directly by the sea and within walking distance of this village and this area consists of purely interesting spots. The intriguing thing about this campground is: you tower over the town, which gives you a panoramic view. You can see the sea, the town the valley, the vast surroundings. With a beautiful pool complex, a fine restaurant and good entertainment, this campground manages to stand out especially in terms of location. Just two hours from Paris, near the “invasion beaches” made world-famous by World War II and a vast arsenal of exceptionally beautiful towns, La Vallée is definitely a must-see for a visit.

Location and environment

Make no mistake: Houlgate is really a tiny village, home to two thousand people. Still, it’s a special place and there’s all kinds of things to do. Plenty of events are held here. The town is famous for its approximately 300 villas from the 19th century, which are wonderfully preserved. You’ll feast your eyes here! Visit the casino, cinema, library and golf course. It makes Houlgate feel rich, but the area certainly offers more. Think of towns like Deauville, Cabourg, Honfleur and Trouville. On the Invasion Beaches; this is where World War II broke out. It still makes a deep impression. But there is also so much beauty everywhere. The Basilica of Lisieux, Bayeux Cathedral, Caen Memorial and, of course, the world-famous Mont Saint-Michel, which is not to be missed. The landscapes here are beautiful, such as the cliffs of Étretat. Yes, Low Normandy is definitely a beautiful region and Camping La Vallée is right in the middle of it.

Pitches

Are you coming with your tent, caravan or motorhome? This campground offers plenty of fine spots. In all, you can choose from 408 sites spread over some 12 acres. Consequently, the campground is not incredibly large, which of course adds to its coziness. Pay attention: there are many elevation changes. Walks can therefore be a task anyway, so you do well to take that into account when picking a spot. There are two sanitary buildings, fully equipped. As for camping spots, you have several sizes to choose from. That will be between 70 and 150 square meters. So you have plenty of space and the facilities are always nearby. For an additional cost, you get electricity and water with your camping pitch.

Swimming

Camping La Vallée’s water park is a beautiful one. It has some 1,200 square meters and comes with slides, a Space Bowl and indoor and outdoor pools. Those outdoor pools open when the temperature permits. One of the slides comes with a giant spinning top: the Space Hole Toll Slide. You must be 16 years of age or older for this spectacle. Fortunately, there are also cool slides for the somewhat younger ones. For toddlers, there is a small heated pool. Of course, this campground is near the beach, so when the weather is really radiant, a day by the sea is always a great option.

Animation

The campground offers all-day activities, for young and old. In the evenings there are shows and evening concerts, and the entertainment also ensures that you can swim in the evening. The idea is that there is connection among the guests; for example, there are regular Miss and Mister Camping elections. In the mornings and afternoons there are soccer tournaments, or beach volleyball, tennis, archery, climbing and scavenger hunts. Or sumo wrestling, treasure hunts, scuba diving lessons and various workshops. Certainly children will not be bored for a moment. There is less to do for ample teens; the slides in the pool certainly offer adrenaline, but no real consideration is given to this age group.

Details and tips

Explore the area and grab a bike. Cities nearby are well worth visiting. Mont Saint-Michel, of course, is a must: this islet in the sea consists of mere castle and is protected by UNESCO. Do set aside an entire day for this. By car, it is still about a two-hour drive away.
