Camping Le Col Vert is a fairly large Sandaya campsite in Les Landes, in the southwest of France. The campground is located directly on Lake Lac du Léon and 10 car minutes from the Atlantic Ocean. Thanks to the pine forest in which the campground is located, there is plenty of shade in the campground.
There is a lovely spacious water park at Camping Le Col Vert with a nice outdoor pool, very nice children’s pool, a small water playground and a large indoor heated pool (whose roof can be opened in nice weather). There are plenty of luxurious loungers around the pool. There is even a stretch of beach where you can relax. Or for that, visit the beautiful wellness center.
In addition, you can also cool off in the lake that runs along the entire length of the campground. There are a few beaches where you can enter the water for swimming or water sports. You can rent kayaks, SUPs and a Stand Up Paddle Bike. If you have your own SUP be sure to bring it along for a nice ride on the lake. Anglers can also cast their rod here. There is also a brand new large playground and new sports fields for playing basketball, tennis or for a game of padel. Bring your bmx, scooter or skateboard so you can test out the cool pumptrack. Camping Le Col Vert even has its own equestrian center on site with a petting zoo.
The campground is a clean, fresh campground that is beautifully maintained. It is also a quiet campsite, making it suitable for the whole family. Thanks to the large number of teenagers present, they will also enjoy themselves here. We should note that there are more French people staying at Camping Le Col Vert compared to the number of Dutch people.
This campsite has over 750 pitches, so it is not very large, but Camping Le Col Vert has a bit of an anomalous shape. In fact, the campground is quite narrow but quite long. If you stay at the back of the campground it is quite a long walk to the pool, which is at the very front of the campground, or to the supermarket and bakery. It is not for nothing that many people bring their bikes or rent a bike at the campsite to cover the distances
Camping Le Col Vert is located in the Les Landes region and is close to the Atlantic Ocean. The campground is in a wooded area so you have (lots of) shade.
Thanks to its location on Lake Léon, you have several opportunities for water sports and can lie on the beach. If your rental or camping spot is near the water, it does mean that you will have a cooler spot than, say, on the main road or elsewhere in the campground.
In the immediate vicinity, you won’t be bored either. Moliets is a beautiful seaside resort known for its golf course by the sea, beautiful sandy beaches and adventure park. In Vieux Boucau you will find delicious restaurants. Explore the area by bike and follow the Vélodyssée cycling route over the dunes and through the forest. Discover the beautiful sandy beaches of the Atlantic Ocean, enjoy a lazy day at the beach or go (wave) surfing. Don’t forget to bring your kite!
Day trips to cities such as Biaritz and Bayonne are also possible from Camping Le Col Vert. And if you’ve always wanted to taste oysters, you must go to Arcachon Bay. It is even possible to go to Spain for a while, because in just 1.5 hours’ drive you are already in the beautiful city of San Sebastian. So plenty to see and do when you stay at Camping Le Col Vert.
At Camping Le Col Vert, there are still quite a few pitches where you can stay with your own tent, caravan or camper. Here you will not find whole rows of straightforward spots, they are quite different but all are quite spacious. Even the 2-star spots. There are also camping spots on the main road. Then keep in mind that that road is quite busy with pedestrians, cyclists and cars. We did find that it was very dark there at night; there is very little lighting at the camp sites if you are not on the main road. Dogs are almost always welcome at Sandaya campsites, and Camping Le Col Vert is also a dog-friendly campsite. Dogs are allowed in all camping areas. You book the different camping pitches through Allcamps and LuxCamp and describe them below:
There are plenty of bathroom facilities at Camping Le Col Vert, but we found them somewhat dated. It is somewhat outdated and there are no toilet seats. At the front of the campsite you have a brand new sanitary building that looks very nice and modern. There, the toilets do have toilet seats and there are also family showers. Possibly Sandaya will still update the plumbing. Most of the sanitary buildings do have special children’s sanitary facilities. The sanitary buildings are on the main road, so you may have to walk from your pitch.
Washing machines and dryers are also available in washrooms 1 and 4.
There is a very wide choice of rental accommodations at Camping Le Col Vert. Almost all rental properties have plenty of privacy. However, this does mean that you are looking at the back or side of your neighbors a lot. But your terrace is then quite hidden and offers you a lot of privacy.
We describe all rentals below, but still have a tip for you. Because the rental Mimosas are really nice in terms of location: opposite the pool and a short walk to the stores. Also, they are in a nice field and cozy together. However, here you will be more visible to the neighbors on your patio because they are more facing each other. The rental accommodation Rosalière is also a tip: thanks to its location on, or close to, the water, you are nicely hidden in the woods and have plenty of shade. In this accommodation you have a lot of privacy, because all accommodations face forward. There are also beautiful safari tents for rent. You rent all accommodations through Allcamps and LuxCamp. Read below all the options in terms of rental accommodations at Camping Le Col Vert.
If you want to take your dog on vacation, you can do so at all accommodations except the Rosalière Cottages and the Cottage Mimosas. Book your rental accommodation through Allcamps, LuxCamp, Suncamp or ANWB.
For lots of water fun, Camping Le Col Vert is the right place. There is a wonderful water park and in addition, the campground borders directly on Lac du Léon lake. The water park features two large swimming pools, one of which can be covered in less than nice weather. This pool is also heated and has a separate baby pool. The large indoor pool has a part that is not deep and the somewhat large children can stand. Through a rope, the deeper part (1.60m) is separated from the less deep part.
The fine outdoor pool is nice and spacious and surrounded by luxurious loungers. There is another smaller pool right next to the pool, which also serves as a hot tub and is suitable for small children. However, small children will have a great time in the very nice children’s pool at Camping Le Col Vert. There are several pieces of playground equipment with slides and water sprayers for them to play with. Because the pool is shallow, it is perfect for little ones to play in. There is also a spray park with a number of fountains and water tipping tanks. However, this is not very big, but nice for variety. There are no big slides at this campground.
There are lots of, fine & sturdy, sunbeds available for free around the pools. There are also a number of canopies that allow you to lie in the shade. There is also a beach made at the back of the pool, beyond the wading pool. Here you have lovely lounging areas with shade cloths and it’s like being on the beach.
A big plus of this campground is Lake Léon. The campground runs its length along the lake, giving you a view of the lake from many rental units and camping spots. However, there are a number of little beaches where you can walk into the water. The lake is perfect for swimming and water sports. Many people bring their own SUP or canoe/kayak to enjoy boating on the lake. However, you can also rent all sorts of things there, such as a sup, canoe, pedal boats and a Stand Up paddleboat. On the beach, you can enjoy the sun and the children can play nicely.
If you’re ready for some time to yourself to relax, head to the Wellness & Spa this campground offers. This separate, relaxing space near the supermarket offers you a wide range of wonderful facials, massages and more. There are even treatments for children, and men can also have their excess hair removed here. See the full range and prices on the price list in the photos.
Near the larger beach you will find the restaurant. The restaurant looks very cozy and hip with nice mood lighting and nicely set tables. There is a fairly general menu of pastas, salads, pizzas, meat and fish. In addition, separate children’s dishes are available. In addition to eating, you can also enjoy a drink there, for example at one of the high tables with stools. The restaurant was located opposite the stage where the entertainment takes place in 2023, allowing you to watch the entertainment from your seat with a drink. However, a new stage was built and it is in a different location on the campground.
There is no real pool bar, but there is nice bar right next to the pool with a nice terrace overlooking the pool. Inside you can play table football and there is a pool table and pinball machine.
For a tasty snack, head to the snack bar. It is located next to the supermarket and bakery. There is also a pizza takeaway where you can buy tasty pizzas to eat at your own accommodation.
There is also a nice restaurant near the beach. This is not part of the restaurant but is easy to walk to from the campground.
There is a fun and active entertainment program at Camping Le Col Vert. There will be activities throughout the day for young and old. Note that most team members speak French and only a few speak English. This is unfortunate, though, especially for the smaller children. The mini club is next to the restaurant and is very large. There are lots of materials available to enjoy crafting and nothing is too crazy.
There is a special entertainment program for teenagers and they also have their own hangout, where they can even play games. Furthermore, the teens also met a lot at the sports fields.
In addition to activities for children, many sports classes and tournaments are organized. Think HITT training, AquaDance, AquaGym, Pilates, Yoga, Volleyball, Jeu de Boules, Paintball and much more.
If the children want to participate in any activity, including craft activities, you must sign up via the Sandaya app. This was a bit cumbersome, though, especially since there was very little information available in the app itself.
In the evening there is a mini disco and fun shows such as a fun Disney show. Well-known Disney songs were sung by the characters themselves, think Belle & the Beast, Mickey Mouse, Anna & Elsa from Frozen and Aladin. This was a lot of fun. Furthermore, Fluo parties are organized, Movie nights and concerts.
Season 2023 saw work on a new stage with arena. This is a nice theater with benches and a good view of the stage where the evening shows and mini disco will take place. This looked very nice and promises a nice addition to Camping Le Col Vert. Only the restaurant and bar would be a little farther away, but it seemed that a bar would be added.
There is so much to do and experience at Camping Le Col Vert that you may run out of time! There is a super beautiful and brand new playground in the middle of the campground. Everything is made of wood and looks very nice. For example, a new playhouse, a cable car and a challenging course for the children were created. Next to the playground is a cool pumptrack for your bmx bike, skateboard or scooter. The campground’s bouncy castle is near the restaurant.
And next to the playground a very multifunctional and modern multi-sports ground has been built. In addition to a new padel court, there is a tennis court, basketball opportunities, table tennis tables and a beach volleyball court. Everything is nice and central and it also attracts many camping guests and is a favorite hangout for young people.
Further along the campground is a large bocce court where people are playing all day long. This is also a place to gather in the evening.
Not to mention, and what is quite unique, there is a real riding school at Camping Le Col Vert! If you, or your child, love horseback riding then this is the place to be. There are many horses and, as a result, many opportunities to go for a ride. Next to the stables is a petting zoo with all kinds of animals.
There is a bike rental on site, should you want to explore the area by bike (which is highly recommended). In addition, you see that many people who are at the back of the campground rent bikes to get around the campground. Because it’s quite a distance to walk to the pool and supermarket if you’re in the back.
Also quite unique, and very nice, is the library at the campground. Next to the bar/restaurant by the pool is a separate area where you can grab/swap books and plop down in a nice reading chair for quiet reading. We thought this was a nice addition to the campground.
There is a fairly large supermarket at Camping Le Col Vert with a wide selection. In addition, they really sell a lot of swimming items at the supermarket. Think swimming bands, inflatable items, scoops, buckets, flip-flops and swimwear. In the bazaar, which is next to the supermarket, they sell all kinds of souvenirs, magazines, newspapers and much more.
There is a separate bakery where you can buy (stick) bread and some sweet snacks.
The campsite uses the Sandaya App: on this, among other things, animation program is visible, but you won’t find much info about the activities themselves. Signing up for activities is done through the app.
Camping Le Col Vert is a dog-friendly campground. A dog shower is available at the campground.
Sandaya makes a big deal about recycling as much as possible. A large recycling plaza is therefore present.
