Camping Le Vieux Port is a large campsite located directly on the South Atlantic coast in the pine forest of Les Landes. This five-star campsite is ideal for families, thanks in part to its spectacular water park, beach, entertainment and various sports facilities. There is also plenty to do in the surrounding area and even a visit to Spain is possible.
The water park, or Pirate’s Land, will be completely renovated in 2022. It has become a spectacular swimming and play park with several slides, as well as a fun water playground. Your kids won’t want to leave here!
At the campground you can choose from very many different rental accommodations. From a two-person safari tent to a western wagon, and from a bungalow tent to a super-deluxe mobile home with jacuzzi. But there are also different types of pitches available. For example, consider a camping pitch with private bathroom facilities.
With a direct location on the Atlantic Ocean in southwestern France and a completely renovated water park, Camping Le Vieux Port is a top campsite for good reason! The campground is located in a pine forest; all accommodations are set up among the trees present, giving you the feeling of spending the night in a forest.
From the campground you can walk directly to the beach: depending on where you are in the campground, this can be quite a hike. You walk through the beautiful dunes and then emerge onto an incredibly wide sandy beach. Be careful though, it is the Atlantic Ocean and has powerful waves and undercurrents. But with that, it is perfect for bodyboarding or surfing and for hours of water fun. If you want to learn to surf, then you have come to the right place because there are a number of surf lesson providers here!
In the immediate vicinity, you won’t be bored either. For example, the adventure park in Moliets is a must for families and in Vieux Boucau you will find delicious restaurants. Explore the deciduous forests by bike or play golf at the nearby 9- and 18-hole golf course. Plenty to do!
And if you want to spend another day in Spain, that’s possible too because in just a 1.5-hour drive you’re already in the beautiful city of San Sebastian!
Camping Le Vieux Port offers flat pitches for tents, caravans and RVs. The pitches, with electricity, are close to the pool and playground. Caravans, tents and campers are all mixed together, and the streets are arranged in a circular shape. This gives a playful effect. The sites themselves are spacious, but because of the presence of all the trees, sometimes one can get in the way. A few pitches with private bathrooms are also available. And some places are even more luxurious with a covered terrace and a dishwasher! There are a total of five types of pitches, ranging in size from 80 to 150m2.
Scattered around the grounds you will find several sanitary buildings. These could use a makeover as far as we are concerned: it is kept well clean, but it is somewhat outdated.
Here are also the dishwashing areas. The dishwashing sinks are very large, but quite low. You will also find a couple of sinks for your hand washing. If you don’t want to do laundry by hand, there are also washing machines at the campground.
Most of the campground consists of rental accommodations. You have a huge choice of accommodation types here: from 2-person furnished safari tents to super-luxurious mobile homes including jacuzzi! There are more than enough choices, making this campground appealing to any budget. And do you come with 2 people or are you with a group of 10, there is a solution for all needs or budgets. There is also a new Premium district, especially for those who love luxury and comfort. You have a view of the dune with a great terrace. For example, the Cottage Trio Support Premium Jacuzzi model is a whopping 80m2 and has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. And, of course, a Jacuzzi. If you want even more luxury, from season 2023 you can rent a Duo Premium chalet for 6/7 people with private pool! The two living modules are connected by an “all-in-one” terrace of 40m2 with pool, shower, plancha, lounge sofa and wooden table. In addition, you also have direct access to the dunes and thus the beach. What a luxury!
The accommodations are crisscrossed, so there are no straight rows, which makes it very airy. Because the campground is arranged around the present trees, you imagine yourself in a large forest.
And then the pool at Le Vieux Port: this can rightly be called a swimming paradise! The pool was completely renovated in 2022, making it now the largest themed aqua park in Europe! There are 5 heated pools and as many as 11 slides! There is also a water play area (Aqua Splash) available so your little one can play as well. There are also two Jacuzzis and there is even a wave pool. There are more than enough sunbeds available at Pirate’s Land, the name of the water park. The theme is completely carried through in the decoration of the water park and looks really great. We are sure you will have hours of fun here and the kids won’t want to leave! The pool is completely fenced so your small children cannot just enter the water park. Case in point: boys are not allowed to wear swimming shorts and you are not allowed to walk around in your flip-flops.
You will also find here, unique in a campground, the WaveMotion: a surf simulator where, for a fee, you can surf artificial waves for 20 minutes. You can wakeboard and water ski, as well as surf or bodyboard, but without the dangers of the ocean. Four people can work at the same time. They do have different age and weight requirements.
To relax, there is a wellness area & spa, where you can enjoy a sauna, hammam, massages and beauty treatments for a fee. Admission to the spa is 18 euros for an adult; you get a discount if two people go together. The treatments are quite pricey. For example, for a 30-minute relaxation massage, you pay 49 euros and a 30-minute facial costs 55 euros. There are also 60-minute treatments and those prices start from 79 euros. Or unwind together and book a 60-minute duo massage for 200 euros.
The beach is directly accessible to camping guests, which is a very big plus. The wide sandy beach is excellent for sun lovers, surfers and hikers. The beach has high waves: there are several surf schools available so those who like a challenge are in the right place. At low tide, there are shallow pools where children can have fun. You will find the most beautiful shells here and you can build wonderful sandcastles. It is also possible to ride horses on the beach.
On site you have several options for lunch or dinner, such as one of the restaurants, the pizzeria, the snack bar or pick up your food to eat at your own accommodation. Get dessert at the ice cream parlor. For a drink, visit the bar or the cozy café.
By the pool is a brand new restaurant-lounge bar, Le Captain Mary. Here you can enjoy a snack or a tasty homemade cocktail in the shade. You look out onto the pool and can keep an eye on your children. If you bring your little one, you don’t have to worry about them getting near the pool. The restaurant sits at the edge of the fenced-in pool.
There are several entertainment clubs available at Le Vieux Port: the Mini Club for children aged 4-6, the Kids Club for children aged 7-12 and also a Teen Club especially for teens aged 13 to 17. Every Friday night there is a big performance by the children for the parents and the rest of the campground. And in July and August, a mini-disco is organized 4 nights a week. In the evenings, there are shows for the whole family in the largest theater hall in the area, think performances by illusionists, concerts, dance performances, cabaret nights and much more.
Besides the already mentioned beautiful beach where you can enjoy surfing, hiking, swimming and horseback riding, there is plenty to do at the campground itself. Think soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, aqua gym: you won’t be bored here.
There are also fun playgrounds scattered throughout the campground. There is also a large playground, near the pool area. This playground is suitable for children between the ages of 5 and 12. The playground has a sand surface, so it is extra safe. In addition to a large climbing tower, there are several swings and several climbing sets with all kinds of different slides. The equipment is tailored to the age group. However, it should be noted that it is a large campsite, so this playground is not easy for all little ones to visit. We were relatively close, so our 8-year-old could walk there on his own. For our 5-year-old, we thought it was too far.
There is even a skate park at the Camping Le Vieux Port. Practice your flips, figures and other techniques on the quarter-pipe, ramp, funbox and rail. So don’t forget to bring your skate gear. There is also a carousel and gaming machines (think air field hockey, boxing machine, pinball machine, foosball table, etc). There is also a special sports garden with various sports equipment, for the fanatic, and you can rent bikes at the campsite for a nice bike ride in the area.
This campground has its own Spar: an extensive supermarket with plenty on offer. Includes a hot bakery for the tastiest croissants, baguettes, chocolate rolls, etc. For a larger supermarket, however, you don’t have to drive far. There are also several stores in the campground where you can buy, for example, swimwear, as well as beach toys, postcards, water toys, hats, souvenirs, and much more.
With the campground’s own app, you have all the information at your fingertips: you can easily access all information about the campground, the various restaurants, reservations for the surf simulator, for example, etc. Handy to look everything up in your own phone and have a map handy.
Each camping guest is given a wristband. It is quite large for toddler arms though and we found it to be a downside.
Barbecuing at your camping spot is not allowed. Near the camping spots were barbecues for general use.
Dogs are allowed. There is even a separate building where you can wash your pet.
Wifi is available throughout but is chargeable.
