The river delta of the world-famous Po River is a true natural park. The Po Delta is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, and for good reason. Not only is the sea beautiful here, but the nature is also overwhelming. Camping Villaggio Barricata is by the sea, far away from civilization, so city trips are not so much around the corner. At this 5-star vacation park, near a very long golden beach, you will completely relax.
The Po-Delta lies roughly between Venice and San Marino, but note that the former is still about a two-hour drive away. A little closer is Choggia, “Little Venice,” a little less touristy but also very beautiful. Therefore, this campground is really in the middle of nature; there are hardly any villages nearby and so the distances are often not to be underestimated. In short, the bottom line is that with this campground you have a true sea and nature vacation, full of biking and hiking trails and a perfect spot for bird watching. By the way, prepare yourself well: at night there are very many mosquitoes here, despite many measures taken by the campsite itself. So a few bottles of deet is not a luxury!
Outdoors, in harmony with the surrounding nature and plenty of shade. Yes, your tent or your caravan at Camping Villaggio Barricata sounds like music to your ears. Here you will find 96 spots, in a system of flowery paths that are wonderfully maintained. All sites are, of course, equipped with electricity and drinking water. Need more shade? Then there is a tension tarp, which is semi-shaded and does not let any rain through. There are adequate sanitary facilities on the premises.
In terms of accommodations, there is plenty to choose from at Villaggio Barricata. Of course, there is a glamping area here, for those who want to experience a special contact with nature. This area is located in the Barricata Holiday Village, the vacation park in the heart of the natural park and also right by the sea. There are more than enough varieties to choose from further and the best part is: everything is a stone’s throw from the sea. A total of over 400 accommodations can be found, so there is something for everyone. All contain the luxuries you expect. Pets are welcome at the vacation park. Charging stations are available for hybrid and electric cars.
Water entertainment is everywhere here. First of all, there is swimming pool Laguna, which has some water play islands placed in it. Perfect for little ones! Or the pool with a hefty slide, which you can slide down at a murderous pace. But simply swimming laps in the large 25-meter-long and 12.5-meter-wide pool is also still a great option. Next to the water park is another wellness area, with Jacuzzi baths and massages. Can you completely unwind. The sea, of course, is also a fine option. This sandy beach slopes down slowly, making it a safe place. There are lifeguards everywhere to keep an eye on things.
Camping Villaggio Barricata has several restaurants. The bay of Scardovari is home to one of the largest oyster farms in northern Italy, and rice is grown nearby. This area is further famous for its mussels, venus clams, artichokes and melons. Not for nothing will you be able to eat these local products well at restaurant Girasole in the Barricata Village. Go there during one of those spectacular sunsets. But there are more spots in the campground where you can eat delicious food. For Italian cuisine, go to Cressente, Soravento is the barefoot Bar -right, you can only go in there barefoot-and on the beach you’ll find the Beach bar. At the latter, you can also find plenty of local produce.
For children, the vacation park offers many fun free activities, including sports classes, tournaments and creative workshops. This is all under the guidance of qualified and multilingual staff, which, by the way, is not to say that Dutch is guaranteed. Of course, this includes extensive use of the pool. Not only is there entertainment for the very young, 10- to 17-year-olds can also have more than enough fun at the TeenClub. In the evening, there are plenty of performances at the theater.
At Camping Villaggio Barricata there are plenty of sports to enjoy. Soccer, basketball, volleyball, archery, tennis, fitness and aqua gym courses are on the program. Or go horseback riding by the sea on the beach, organized by Barricata Ranch. This ranch is really there for horse lovers and with your horse you can also go to very many places.
Children and adults can also learn to dive here. First, you first get familiar with the underwater world in the pool so you can get used to the conditions. Later you go to the sea, where of course there is much more to see. You can obtain the globally recognized PADI certification here. Also fun: you can also participate in boat excursions through the river delta through the campground, or take a canoe.
The campground has a very well-stocked supermarket, so you won’t be short of anything. In addition, there is a bazaar, where you can buy newspapers, games, clothes and souvenirs. And do you really want to treat yourself? There is a hair salon, a beauty center with beautician and massage treatments, a gym and a game room on site. As such, you will not be short of anything here, but if you want to do some really big shopping: the somewhat larger supermarket Ali is about 15 kilometers from the campsite. On Thursday evening, there is a small market here with a few stalls selling all sorts of things.
The campground is very remote, which should be factored into your decision to go. Besides, it’s nature: there are mosquitoes and some smells can sometimes come up from the Delta and the sea. The campground itself has everything, so really the villages a little further away are not necessary to make your stay enjoyable. Do you want to get out anyway? Visit Choggia, the village known as “Little Venice,” or head to beautiful Padua. Of course, while you’re in that corner, you can never forget Venice itself.
