Camping Altomincio Family Park

Camping Altomincio Family Park

Camping Altomincio Family Park is a fun family campground located near Lake Garda in Italy. It is a very clean terraced campground with only mobile homes and is open from mid-April to the end of September. So you cannot come here with your own tent or caravan. The campground is completely geared to families and families. You notice this, for example, the campground is completely car-free, perfect for small children. They can enjoy free cycling and scooting here. This gives and safe and cozy feeling. Because the campground is car-free, your luggage will be brought to your mobile home by golf carts upon arrival. There are many Dutch people at this campground, which makes it easy for children to connect. We do have to say that for teenagers, apart from the pool, there is a little less to do.

Altomincio is a fairly large campground. If you are “at the top” of the campground, you can experience being far from everything, but nice and quiet. There does run a little train (every 5 to 10 min) across the campsite to still get to the pool, restaurants or store quickly. They also sell sandwiches on the upper level in a mobile cart, so you don’t have to walk to the store in the morning. It is wise to check with the various providers to see where their accommodations are located so that you can set yourself up for this in advance.

Location and environment

Location Altomincio Family Park

The campsite is located about 7km from Lake Garda, near the quaint town of Peschiera del Garda. Camping Altomincio owes its name to the Mincio River which runs right past it. This river runs as far as Peschiera del Garda where it flows into Lake Garda. Along the banks of the river there is also a bike path, which allows you to easily cycle to Peschiera (see campsite map). Bicycles are also available for rent at the campground.

The location of this campground is ideal for trips around Lake Garda. You always need a car or a bicycle for this, though, because there is not much in the immediate area. Besides Peschiera, the villages of Sirmione, Lazise and Bardolino are well worth a visit. Theme parks such as Gardaland, Movieland Park and Caneva Acquapark can also be reached within 15 minutes by car.

About 40 minutes by car is Verona, a beautiful city to visit. Want to avoid the traffic? Then consider the train. From Peschiera, a train runs every half hour, taking you into the center of Verona in 17 minutes!

Swimming

Altomincio Family Park has a beautiful pool complex consisting of 3 pools and a spray park. Whether you want to leisurely swim laps, or enjoy playing, there is a perfect pool for everyone. Nice to know that a swim cap is not mandatory here, and shorts are also just allowed. The Olympic pool’s swimming water does tend to be a bit on the cold side at times.

There are sunbeds and umbrellas around all the pools. What is nice at Camping Altomincio is that they have a reservation system for sun beds at the lagoon pool. This avoids the problem of “towel-laying. At the Olympic pool you don’t need to make reservations; there are usually plenty of sun beds available here.

Because Altomincio is a large campground, a little train runs for guests a little higher up the campground. In the off-season this is regular, from early June it is nonstop.

The Lagoon Pool

lagoon pool Camping Altomincio Family Park

The lagoon pool is a large, shallow pool with a soft rubber bottom. It is only 30 cm deep. So you can lie down in this and combine sunbathing and freshening up. This also makes it very safe and comfortable for children.

In the middle of the lagoon pool is a kind of mountain with slides and a tunnel that children can walk under.

There are three slides that exit into the lagoon pool. One is a wide and short slide. The other is a double slide which is more traditional (a bit longer and narrow). Because this slide has two lanes you can have fun competing here to see who gets down first! To ensure safety, there is lifeguard supervision at all slides.

The third slide is also very cool, with it you go from pool to pool in your swimming band, descending from a higher level more and more towards the lagoon pool. Tip: bring your own swimming band from home. Of course, they are also available at the campground, but a lot more expensive.

The Olympic swimming pool

The Olympic-size pool is nice and big (50 x 20 meters) and ideal for just swimming / laps. The pool is 120cm deep. There are no slides at this pool.

Toddler pool

paddling pool Camping Altomincio Family Park
Like the lagoon pool, this pool for toddlers also has a soft rubber bottom. It is only 15cm deep, ideal for little ones. Access to pool is only for children (and parents) up to 2 years old. This pool is also managed by the Mini Club team.

The Spraypark

The spray park is ideal for children to play with water through the many water play equipment. Again, this spray park is made on soft ground, and has only a thin layer of water.

Swimming in Lake Garda
Of course, you can also go swimming in nearby Lake Garda. It may be fine to bring water shoes due to the pebbles in the water.

Around 8:30 p.m. there is daily mini disco, perhaps a little too late for the very young, but totally super for the older kids. It lasts about 45 minutes, after which there is an additional program with, for example, a show or a quiz. Once a week there is also a fun foam party! Around 10:30 p.m. it is usually over (from 11 p.m. it should also be quiet in the campground).

Details and tips

Just outside the campground is restaurant Diga, where you can also eat delicious food. You can reach this restaurant for a staircase behind the upper part of the campground.

Near the campground there is a large supermarket (Martinelli Supermarket in Monzambano), where you can go for large purchases, or things you can’t get in the store at the campground. It is also cheaper than camping. It’s not really within walking distance, but by car/bike you’ll be there in no time. In the other direction (to Peschiera) you also have an Aldi, Lidl and a Spar. The supermarket in the campground also sells very good (cheap) local wine. Highly recommended!

Also, walk along the river to La Littorina del Mincio. A nice place for coffee, lunch, drinks or dinner. For children, there is a small playground. You walk from the campsite towards the North (towards Lake Garda) after about 20 minutes you will reach the café (located by the river). In the summer, they also have regular live music.
