Camping Orchidea is located directly on Lake Maggiore, near the village of Feriolo, in northern Italy. Feriolo is so close, it’s fine to walk. The small promenade right next to the campsite is characterized by a number of restaurants. This green and flat campground is quiet and ideal for families, especially thanks to the gently sloping sandy beach right on the lake, allowing even the little ones to swim in safety. The wide area is easy to do by car, where you will really find all kinds of things. After all, the area around Lake Maggiore is known for its many beauties, especially through the Alps. The Swiss border is only 35 kilometers away. This relatively small, quiet campsite is frequented by many Dutch people, which makes it easy, especially for the children, to make friends quickly.
Camping Orchidea is located in a bay of Lake Maggiore and from here you can take many excursions. There are numerous routes you can take, on foot, by bike or by car. Actually, this is an ideal place to discover Lake Maggiore, or the mountains of Verbano Cusio Ossola. So trek to villages like Baveno, Stresa and Verbania. Stresa is eight kilometers away and from here you can even take the train to Milan. In an hour you are in the center of this crazy city. Also fun: the boat excursions. From May to September, the campsite cooperates with the Consorzio interlaghi Maggiore and Orta, departing directly from Feriolo, 50 meters from the campsite. Also nice to note: on Wednesdays there is a weekly market in Luino. On Friday it will take place in Stresa and on Saturday in Verbania. Stresa is fun to combine with the Borromeo Islands, perhaps the most beautiful part of this crazy lake. During the summer period, guided excursions are organized weekly in Val Grande. The mountains and pristine nature here are a sight to behold.
The small 300 spots at Camping Orchidea are nice and spacious, but you’re not guaranteed shade. Now, there are not trees or shrubs everywhere, which may also create a sense of limited privacy. So definitely recommended that you look critically when you are assigned a spot, because a lot of the pitches are just right, full of shade and privacy. Surely something like that can make or break your vacation. Some pitches are even right on the lake! All sites are equipped with electricity and, for an additional cost, also with water. The plumbing at this campground is tiptop. Want to bring your dog? They are most welcome and are allowed to run around outside the campground-fenced beach. The campground itself has a restaurant. There are also several restaurants along the promenade, so you certainly won’t starve. And if you want an evening barbecue: you can do that at the campsite, too.
At Camping Orchidea you will find many types of accommodations, from mobile homes to full apartments, with private gardens. Some sites have a nice view of the lake, while others are more in the heart of the campground. Having your own cottage on Lake Maggiore is, of course, an ideal way to stay here. The campground itself has a swimming pool, the lake is nearby and there is plenty to do in the area. Then a private accommodation is an ideal base. There are a variety of tastes when it comes to accommodations, with the ideal place undoubtedly existing as well.
A child-friendly pool with a maximum depth of 1.30 meters, a children’s pool with slide with a maximum depth of 0.65 meters and an area for relaxing: there is no problem at Camping Orchidea. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available and there is a snack bar to grab a small snack in between meals. This is, of course, an Italian campground, so it is mandatory to wear bathing caps. The two lakeside beaches are also excellent for taking a refreshing dip.
The restaurants at this campground are of excellent quality and also not too pricey. Right, there are more of them. Restaurant-Pizzeria-Bar “Al Vecchio Canneto” has delicious pizzas from the wood-fired oven. Moreover, children are not only taken into account in the form of a real children’s menu. Gluten-free and vegetarian dishes are also on the menu. ‘Canneto on the Beach’ is the restaurant located right on the beach. They are both open from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., so you can also go here for breakfast. The central restaurant also features table soccer and billiards, and this is where sporting events, such as soccer, Formula 1 and cycling, are broadcast.
This campground is highly regarded when it comes to entertainment. Children are especially well entertained throughout the day, as they do concentrate on ages 4 through 12. Animation is multilingual and is also given in Dutch, for example. For adults, there are fitness activities at the beach and pool that you can participate in.
You don’t have to sit still at this campground. There is a soccer and volleyball field, you can play table tennis and petanque. Furthermore, the surroundings really invite you wholeheartedly to walk or bike. Bicycles can be rented, of course, and is an absolute must: quietly exploring the lake, with a fresh breeze through your hair. The lake itself, of course, gives extensive opportunities for water sports, and there are several providers for that. And not just own motion; a boat ride on the lake with insane views of the wharf are more than worth it. If you intend to go on vacation with adolescents: there is not really anything for them to do, in terms of going out or meeting other people.
In the campground there is a little store where you can really buy the necessities. Indeed, that means fresh bread daily and on request, for example, a barbecue package. About 500 meters from the campground is a slightly larger supermarket, where a little more is available. A really big supermarket is seven kilometers away, the Ipercoop.
The Borromeo Islands are really worth visiting. Hop from island to island: Isola Bella has a Baroque style and beautiful gardens. Isola Madre is attractive with its many birds. Isola Pescatori is known for its fishing. There are cab boats going there from Stresa, as well as boats from Bovena. And that is four kilometers away from the campground.
