Close to the sea, in the middle of Tuscany and within manageable distance of splendid cities like Siena and Florence is Camping Baia del Marinaio. Located within walking distance from the Ligurian Sea, the campsite is characterized by its tamarisks, oleanders, poplars and eucalyptus trees. The surroundings are beautiful, with Vada beach an almost tropical destination. Of course there are several Tuscan gems quite close by, but also consider the beautiful islands of the Tuscan archipelago. At Vada you will find a train station, which will take you to all these fine locations in the area. This family campground attracts many Dutch people every year, which makes it easier for children to make new friends.
The Tuscan coast, the Tuscan vineyards, the Tuscan art cities. Regarding the former, the sea is about 300 meters from the main entrance to the campground and is accessible on foot through the pine forest. One small obstacle, however, is the busy road Via Nuova Dei Cavallaggeri, which you must first cross to reach that forest. The Pisa International Airport is about a 45-minute drive from the campsite and can also be reached by train, although it will take you considerably longer. Indeed, close to the campsite you will find the train station of Vada, which also allows you to explore this beautiful area without a car. By the way, that is not a huge recommendation: then again, both Florence and Siena are just too far away for that. By car, both of these cities are already just under two hours away; by train, they are easily three. Those distances are definitely worth it, but not very close so.
Camping Baia del Marinaio is a large campground, with many pitches covering about 60 to 100 square meters. Scattered around the campsite you will find four modern and functional sanitary buildings. And maybe it is pleasant, maybe just a big disadvantage: you are not allowed to park your car near your tent or caravan. This should be in the parking lot. It provides a car-free campground, which of course is nice for safety.
The accommodations of Camping Baia del Marinaio are located in the vacation park, the Villaggio. There is ample choice in cottages; from large to luxurious, wheelchair friendly, modern or just authentic. The cottages are all close to the pool, entertainment and good access towards the sea, but at the same time well hidden in the woods and with plenty of privacy and tranquility. By the way, pets are welcome and allowed almost everywhere. Obviously not in the stores and swimming pool, nor on parts of the beach, but again in a special dog walking area. There is even a veterinarian.
As mentioned, the sea is 300 meters from the main entrance and can be reached through the pine forest. The beach contains fine sand, the sea very slowly gets deeper and deeper, which of course is a nice thought with children: very surprising the sea will not behave quickly. A little further away is the sandy beach of Vada, about five minutes away by car. That pearly white beach with blue sea is beautiful and a must visit.
But the campground also has its own large swimming pool with a big slide á 30 meters. In addition, there is a children’s pool and a Whirlpool. The use of the pool is free for guests of the campground, any sun bed or chair is you can use for a fee.
A ten-minute drive away is Acqua Village Cecina, a spectacular water park.
The campground has three restaurants, all from the Tuscan tradition. So the menu is a little guessing: homemade pizzas, rich grilled meat and fish dishes and homemade desserts. There are also plenty of other options available here, such as vegetarian and gluten-free. Of course, you can also pick up your food here, so you can eat it in front of your tent or accommodation. From hearsay: near the campground is a hotel where there is also very good food. The nearby villages also have fine restaurants.
Entertainment is offered only during the summer months. Camping Baia del Marinaio offers plenty of entertainment for young people of all ages, in which sports are an important part. Consequently, there are plenty of tournaments organized, in all kinds of sports. In the evening, this entertainment continues with shows, games, group dances, etcetera.
There are plenty of sports facilities at this campground. Think soccer, basketball, beach volleyball and tennis. The courts are all free, but you can get paid tennis lessons, for example. A fun recommendation here is to go jogging or fast walking. There is a beautiful trail laid out in the lush pine forest, which really does make this move a lot more fun.
In the summer, there is the Costa Etrusca Camp. This is a collaboration between several campgrounds in the area, offering sports weeks for children. You get training from sports coaches, interspersed with fun, relaxing things.
Outside the campground, of course, is beautiful Tuscany. The campground offers bikes for rent, which is always a good idea. In addition, excursions are offered to the Etruscan Coast, to Florence, Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano, Lucca and Pisa.
At the campground you will find a mini-market with a wide range of groceries, plus a drugstore. Here you can get basically everything, with an emphasis on many Tuscan delicacies.
We already mentioned it: the entrance to the beach, but especially the beach of Vada. Or undertake the Wine Route, in which you will get a slightly closer look at Tuscan vineyards. The art cities of Florence and Siena, or just the countless genuine Tuscan villages are always worth visiting. Fancy an ice cream? Go to Cicina de Mare. There are excellent ice cream parlors along the promenade. A nice outing is also the Aquarium of Livorno, with the most beautiful fish.
