Camping Orlando in Chianti

Camping Orlando in Chianti

High in the hills, among oaks and pines, is the campground Orlando. This is Chianti, one of those many fine wine regions in Tuscany. The trip to the campground is already almost that Tuscan fairy tale, with beautiful views of the vineyards. The campsite itself offers plenty of entertainment for children, in the form of playgrounds, extensive (Dutch-speaking) entertainment and swimming pools, but is also suitable for couples who want to glamp and enjoy complete privacy. Head for the hills, to the shade of Camping Orlando and head out to see cities like Florence, Siena and Arezzo. The typical Chianti town of Radda is only a 15-minute bike ride away. Greve, Castellina Castelnuovo Berardenga and Gaiole are also nearby.

Location and environment

Tuscany, need we say more? But: well the Tuscany high up in the hills. The road to the campground is winding and can even be considered a challenge. Although the campground has more than enough to offer for a carefree vacation, a car is almost a necessity here: there is little really close by. Cities like Florence and Siena are easily an hour’s drive anyway. Nearby is the Park of Cavriglia, where you will find plenty of extremely varied flora and fauna. You’ll see fallow deer, mouflon and llamas and plenty of unique plants. You can also go horseback riding at the equestrian center in the park. Because the campground is quite high, it cools off well here at night. An additional advantage of this, is that mosquitoes do not find this place so interesting.

Pitches

Bring your own caravan or tent to Camping Orlando. The campground offers several types of sites, all of which have in common that they are shaded. Will you go for a big place of 110 square meters, or do you prefer to keep it a little smaller, down to 20 square meters? In all cases, electricity is an option and the two sanitary buildings are fully equipped. Barbecuing is allowed only electric or via gas. The use of charcoal is expressly prohibited.

Accommodations

The campground likes to call itself glamping, the more luxurious version of camping. Consequently, there are many glamping locations at Camp Orlando, including safari tents, lodges and luxury cottages. There are also some more unique options, such as an American school bus, a vintage Shasta or the cool Airstream. What they all have in common: you have all the space, peace and privacy, because everything is in the middle of nature. Don’t have children (yet), but want to go with your loved one? This campsite is not purely geared to children, but certainly for romance or for (small) groups of friends. But for families, you can also find all the luxuries you need, with a kitchen, a living room and plenty of sleeping options in the locations. Fun: pets are more than welcome here!

Swimming

At the center of the campground is the beautifully landscaped water park, watched over by two lifeguards. This paradise consists of three pools, with plenty of relaxation but also opportunities to romp around. A twelve-meter-wide slide lets you slide with a tire into the Spotty Pool, toward the waterfall. From many places in the campground you have a nice view of this water park, which is very centrally located.

Restaurants

Although there are some villages nearby, where you can eat excellent food, but: that is really not necessary with the excellent restaurant at Camping Marina Orlando. The pizzas from the wood oven are not to be sneezed at, the wine tastings always interesting. Of course, they prepare all meals with local products and make mostly local, culinary specialties. On top of the restaurant is a rooftop, a very cozy place to spend the evening. Would you rather eat “at home”? There are takeout options!

Of course, there is a bar for those tasty refreshing drinks and a gelateria, for a delicious Italian ice cream.

By the way, at the campsite itself there is also plenty to do when it comes to sports and recreation. There is a soccer field, you can play table football, table tennis, there is a gym. Details and tips

Above Florence, an hour’s drive away, you’ll find Il Gigante Adventure Park. A park in the woods that requires a lot of fitness to complete the trails. Especially a fun option for adventurous children. Of course, Siena and Florence are nearby, the cradle of the Renaissance. If you’ve never been here before, it can almost be called a must-see. A trip to the now-abandoned Cavriglia Zoo is also an option. You’ll still find plenty of directional signs in the area, but you won’t find an exotic animal there anymore. Still nice to take a walk!
