Camping de Zandstuve is a great children’s campsite in the beautiful surroundings of Hardenberg, Overijssel. This 5-star campsite is truly equipped with all amenities and is completely focused on families with (young) children. There is an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a water playground, countless playgrounds scattered throughout the park and a top entertainment program on weekends and school vacations. And then there is the indoor playground Cobus’ Play Castle and several restaurants. Children will have a great time at this not too large and conveniently arranged campground, and they can also explore on their own. Do your kids a favor and quickly book a camping spot or one of the great rental properties for a top vacation!
Because there is so much to do at Camping de Zandstuve, you don’t really need to leave the campground. But if you do want to, there is plenty to do in the area. The campsite is located in the beautiful landscape of the Overijssel Vechtdal, where you can take beautiful walks and bike rides. You can also find several mountain bike trails, such as the challenging MTB route Hardenberg. You can rent bikes at the campground, so you don’t have to bring them from home. They rent out children’s bikes, bike seats, e-bikes and city bikes.
There are also plenty of nice villages and towns to visit, such as Hardenberg, Dalfsen, Ommen and Zwolle. You can also visit the Hunebed Center, where you can learn all about the dolmens. If you already have older children, a visit to the Camp Westerbork Memorial Center is also recommended.
Amusement parks Hellendoorn and Slagharen are also not far away as is Wildlands Emmen. If you like fishing or horseback riding, that is possible in the immediate vicinity of De Zandstuve.
There are many pitches at Camping de Zandstuve that are all nice and spacious, averaging 120m2. All pitches have a minimum of 8 amps of electricity (increase available for a fee), a TV connection, a private water point, a dirty water drain and a view of a playground/equipment. With three sanitary buildings there is always one close to your pitch, but it is also possible to book a pitch with private sanitary facilities.
The camping sites at Camping de Zandstuve are:
– Pitch Comfort: all pitches are comfort pitches. You can choose a place in a cozy field, or choose a quiet corner. You can also choose your arrival and departure dates. You can come here with your own tent, caravan, folding trailer but also with your camper. Book your comfort camping spot here.
– Pitch with private bathroom: these pitches have their own bathroom unit with a shower, toilet, a sink and a facility for washing dishes (on the outside). The washrooms are kept incredibly clean and, in addition to the standard amenities, are all equipped with heaters, microwaves, centrifuges and family showers. The sanitary building on the Water Gorgels field also has disabled sanitary facilities.
There are pet-friendly camping spots where you and your four-legged friend can enjoy everything this campground has to offer. Close to the campground there are special dog walking areas where your dog can run for a while. The fields where you can go with, at most 1, dog are Cobus 12 to 65, Birch 29 to 42 and Bliz 1 to 17. The remaining fields are dog-free.

If you want a little more luxury during your vacation, there is plenty on offer in terms of accommodations at De Zandstuve. Whether you’re vacationing as a couple or with a group of 12, it’s all possible here. For example, there are lodges, chales, glamping accommodations, touring caravans, furnished tents, hiker’s huts and group accommodations. Your dog is welcome in one of the tunnel tents.
De Zandstuve’s rental accommodation offerings are as follows (click on the links for more info):
– Vechtdallodge: this is the most popular accommodation at Camping de Zandstuve. This cute accommodation with a round roof and spacious veranda can accommodate 6 or 8 people. There is a sitting area, kitchen (including dishwasher), three or four bedrooms, one of which has a box bed and a lovely lounge sofa. You’ll find the Vechtdallodge for 6 on fields Birch 6 to 13, Stiefje 2 to 4 and Buur 9 to 12. The Vechtdallodge for 8 is located on field Berk 17 and 18. – Boslodge DeLuxe: this luxury accommodation can accommodate 6 people and has 3 bedrooms, a modern kitchen with a dishwasher, among other things, and a luxurious bathroom. The toilet is separate. The covered terrace has a table with individual chairs and you can chill on the lounge sofa. On field Neighbor 24 through 26 are these Forest Lodge DeLuxe.
– Rheezerlodge: this lodge is wonderfully spacious, has a large covered veranda with lounge area and central heating. It can sleep 6 people in the two bedrooms (there is one bedroom with 2 bunk beds). The luxury kitchen has a refrigerator with freezer as well as a dishwasher, and there is a modern bathroom. You’ll find them on fields Neighbor 4 & 5 and Bella 54 through 60.
– Rheezerlodge Deluxe: this is the Deluxe version of the Rheezerlodge with a huge veranda and fine other extras such as an extra bedroom and a separate toilet. This lodge can also accommodate 6 people. They are on fields Birch 1 through 5 and Birch 14 through 16.
– Stuuflodge: in this sturdy lodge, it’s like sleeping in a tent but with all the comforts and luxuries. It can accommodate 7 people and has three bedrooms. There is even a special children’s room with a play area including a slide! There is also a sitting area with TV, a kitchen with dishwasher, air conditioning, a gas stove and a bathroom. The covered terrace has a lounge sofa and a picnic table. The Stuuflodges are located at Bella 94 through 96.
– Stuuflodge DeLuxe: the Stuuflodge DeLuxe is just a bit larger than the standard Stuuflodge: it can accommodate 8 people and has four bedrooms. And this DeLuxe version has an extra floor with its own play area for the kids! How cool. You’ll find them at Bella 108 and 109.
– Stuuflodge Bella: in this sturdy lodge you sleep with up to 6 people. There is a private bathroom with shower, a fully equipped kitchen, a lounge set, a TV and there are three separate bedrooms.
– Verandalodge: if you want to stay with 8 people in a spacious lodge tent, the Verandalodge is your best choice. This glamping accommodation is fully equipped, including a spacious sitting area with TV, a fully equipped kitchen, three bedrooms and a bathroom with shower, toilet and double sink. Outside there is a fine lounge set and a picnic bench. The Verandalodges are located on Neighborhoods 6 through 8, 13 and 14.
– Verandachalet: the Verandachalet is a colorful chalet on the most popular field of De Zandstuve, namely the Buur field. There is central heating, as well as a sitting area, a fully equipped kitchen, three bedrooms for up to 6 people, a bathroom and a covered porch with a lounge sofa and a picnic table.
– Family chalet: you can stay with 6 people in this comfortable and cozy mobile home. There are three bedrooms, a full kitchen, TV and a porch with a lovely lounge sofa and picnic table. These family chalets are near the pool, supermarket and Cobus’ Play Castle. They are on fields Steed 5, 6, 8 through 17 and Neighbor 17 through 19.
– Chalet Stiefje: this cozy accommodation is perfect for a family or a group of friends. You’re close to Cobus’ Play Castle and the Chilz Playroom. There are three bedrooms suitable for 6 people, the kitchen is equipped with dishwasher as standard, and there is also a bathroom and a separate toilet. The semi-covered porch has a lounge sofa and a picnic table. Chalet Stiefje is located at Stiefje 7.
– Chalet Berk: If there are four of you looking for a cozy accommodation, this is a good choice. In the sitting area you can watch TV, the kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher and there are two bedrooms. There is a bathroom and a separate toilet. On the porch is a lounge sofa and a garden set. Chalet Berk is located at Berk 0.
– Tractor pod: suitable for two people, this is a perfect accommodation. There are two single beds, a small sitting area with TV, a stove and a small kitchenette. There is no shower available, for that you use the bathroom facilities.
Furnished tent rental Camping de Zandstuve
– De Waard Tunnel Tent: stay in this wonderfully luxurious De Waard tent with up to 5 people. There are three sleeping quarters, a fully equipped kitchen, a garden set and there is a television. There is no shower available and if you want to bring your dog, you can only do so in Cobus 33.
– Touring caravan: if you want to go camping but don’t have your own caravan, this is a good choice. There is a choice of a touring caravan for 4 or 5 people. There is a children’s room with bunk beds, a fixed bed, a round seat, air conditioning, a gas stove and a kitchenette. – Kasteel Uylenburght: If you go to Camping de Zandstuve with a group of up to 10 people, Kasteel Uylenburght is a top accommodation. This group accommodation is a real castle and is fully equipped. Such as the living area with flat screen TV, kitchen with dishwasher, 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a separate toilet and a lounge-sitting area with canopy. Opposite the castle is a playground.
– Family home Rheeze: this luxury family home is the place to be! You can stay there with 10 people and enjoy: a fine kitchen, a large living room with fireplace, a private playground in the garden, a sunbathing lawn, a spacious conservatory with lounge sofas and fireplace, two bathrooms, five bedrooms with box spring mattresses and free wifi. There is also a private jacuzzi in the garden, a foosball table, table tennis table and many board games.
– Family House the Rheezermaten: this group accommodation is very similar to Family House Rheeze, but can accommodate 12 people. There are six bedrooms and three bathrooms here. You can rent the jacuzzi with it for a fee. However, this family house is adapted so that disabled people can also enjoy a wonderful vacation here.

If you like swimming, Camping de Zandstuve is the ideal campsite. In fact, there is a subtropical swimming paradise, an outdoor pool with spray park and a cool water slide.
The indoor subtropical pool is great for the colder days or when the weather is not so nice. The pool is divided into three different pools. For example, for the little ones, there is a toddler pool 15cm deep with fun water toys. The toddler pool is 30cm deep and there is also a slide there. For the bigger ones (children) there is a lovely pool where you can swim and play. Changing cubicles and lockers (50-cent deposit) are available. There is also a separate changing area if you are going to the pool with your toddler or baby.
In summer and weather, there is also a heated outdoor pool. There, too, the pool is divided into three sections. The recreational pool is a great place to swim and play. The little ones can go to the separate toddler pool and the daredevils, of course, go down the 50-meter-long Crazy Cone (funnel) slide. And for much more splashing fun, there is also a super fun water playground. Next to the pool is a separate terrace for a nice drink, ice cream or sandwich.
There are plenty of options to satisfy your hunger at Camping de Zandstuve. You’ll find them all centered on Stuuf Square. At each restaurant, it is possible to order a Stuuf box. This is a children’s menu with fries, a snack, something to drink and a little surprise.
At the pizzeria you will eat delicious fresh pizzas from the wood-fired oven. In the restaurant, cozy up by the fireplace or take a seat on the terrace. You can also come here for a cup of coffee, drinks or lunch. In the children’s play area, children will also have a great time.
The new brasserie & lounge bar “The Stoov” opened in 2023! This atmospheric brasserie offers delicious lunch and dinner with choice accessible dishes. How about a nice (meal) salad, soup, schnitzel or fish? In addition, you can be the chef yourself here if you choose “Steak on the Stone. This is a glowing hot lava plate where you can prepare your own food, such as a delicious steak, for example, as well as prawns, salmon or a vegetarian burger. The kids also have plenty of dishes to choose from. Keep some room left over for a tasty dessert! By the way, there is a nice play area where they can play.
At Stuuf to Go, you can get a quick bite like pizza, fries, snacks, Italian scoop ice cream and a milkshake. You can also order online here so you don’t have to wait long for your snacks.
Since De Zandstuve is also called the children’s campsite of the Netherlands, there is of course also a very nice entertainment program during opening hours. Outside weekends and school vacations, activities are organized only for children up to 5 years old. But on weekends and school vacations there is a fun entertainment program for all ages.
There are three entertainment programs for three different age groups. Children ages 0 to 5 can enjoy dancing, singing, crafts and playing with the mascot. Unique to Camping de Zandstuve are the so-called toddler weeks, during which various activities are organized for small children in the toddler and preschool stage. In addition to being super fun, it is also educational, as they work on their gross and fine motor skills, will start to use their imagination and they can enjoy being creative.
If you have children ages 6-8, there is also a special program for them. In addition to singing, dancing and crafts, they can participate in a soccer tournament, laser gaming, fairy tale tour and cabin building.
Your (pre) teenager will also have a top time at Camping de Zandstuve, because there is a special program for children aged 9 to 11. The so-called Chilz! concept consists of cool activities such as an Escape Room, a thrilling Ghost Walk and a Living Among Us evening game. There is also a slide race and various sports tournaments. If your teen wants to spend some time gaming, you can do so in the Chilz playroom with game consoles and gaming devices.
Camping de Zandstuve is known for its great theater shows and musical. In their own Berk’s Forest Theater, a live theater show featuring their own songs is performed twice a day during the peak season. The earliest show is especially for the youngest children. In addition, a new musical produced especially for De Zandstuve is featured each year. This live show consists of a beautiful story and matching songs.
With 30 playgrounds, kids will have a great time here! Again, you can tell that this campground is entirely focused on children. On each field you will find a playground, which is nice for the children but also definitely for the parents. That way the kids can have fun while you can enjoy a cup of coffee on your patio. In addition, there are playgrounds specially designed for children under 6 years old or just for children over 6 years old.
Of course there is a sports field to play soccer, you can play basketball and volleyball, and of course there are table tennis tables for a “round the world.
But even when the weather is not so good the children can play, at Camping de Zandstuve there is an indoor playground, namely the Cobus’ Speelkasteel. It is mostly climbing and scrambling, but there is also a cable car and fun slides. Although it is not very large, children will have a great time there. However, there is no separate toddler area, so for them might be a little less fun. Parents can sit there in the seating area.
There is a supermarket at Camping de Zandstuve. There is a wide range of food items such as dairy, fruits and vegetables. But you can also go here for fresh sandwiches and even toys.
In addition, there are plenty of supermarkets within a 10-minute drive from the campsite, such as a Jumbo, Spar, Albert Heijn, Aldi and Lidl. There is also an Action in Hardenberg.
