If you are looking for a beautiful and fine campsite with direct access to the beach, then Camping Playa Montroig is at the top of this list. This large 5-star campground has everything you desire and here you will camp in luxury. Right on the Mediterranean Sea and south of Barcelona, Camping Playa Montroig offers you a total camping experience. Not for nothing did they win the ANWB award for “finest family campsite” in 2020. Despite being a large campground, you don’t experience it that way. In fact, everything is centered around “La Plaça,” the large plaza in the middle of the campground. Children (and adults) will have a great time in the large pool or Splash Pool. Not to mention on the beach or in the sea. If you don’t know what you want to do yourself, the vastly expanded entertainment program always offers a fun activity. Every detail has been thought of and the campground is perfectly maintained. There are staff walking and biking around the campground all day to make sure everything looks tidy. The sanitary is also cleaned throughout the day. The window boxes are filled with cheerful flowers, the palm trees blow in the breeze and everything is beautifully lit. The campground’s own app is also very convenient. In it you will find all the information you need about the campground, including a map. For example, you can find the schedule of entertainment (updated weekly), as well as make reservations at one of the restaurants. In addition, during your stay you will receive regular messages or updates with fun tips and facts about the campground. Camping Playa Montroig is certainly not the cheapest campsite, but we were surprised by the prices at the campsite itself. Drinks, ice creams, treats, food: the prices are very acceptable compared to other campsites in the area! What we also liked is that it remained a real campground with lots of camping spots. And in addition, of course, the wide range of different (luxury) rental accommodations.
It is located in the Catalan region of Baix Camp, in the municipality of Mont-Roig del Camp and directly on the Costa Dorada, or Golden Coast. This coastline is known for its fine, golden sand and clear waters. There is access to the beach along the entire length of the campground. If you prefer not to take your vacation by car, the nearest airport (Barcelona) is Reus Airport, about a 20-minute drive away. Or fly via Barcelona Airport, which is about a 60-minute drive. The surrounding area also lends itself to fun and interesting excursions. The beautiful Roman city of Tarragona is 32km away. Known for monuments and ruins from Roman times, this city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The highlight is the world-famous Amphitheater with a beautiful seaside location. But also consider the chapel of the Mare de Déu de la Roca. Not only is that chapel beautiful, but the view from here is breathtaking. You reach this chapel via a special staircase with a wooden handrail. Fun fact: the famous painter Joan Miró stayed here for an extended period of time. For delicious food, the famous fishing village of Cambrils is a must with its many stores and restaurants. Salou is also nearby. Camping Playa Montroig is an hour’s drive from Barcelona, so it is definitely a must to visit this great metropolis during your vacation. Please note that you need a special environmental sticker to drive in the city! The ANWB website has more info on this. Furthermore, near the campsite you will find one of Europe’s largest amusement parks, PortAventura. The park consists of six impressive themed areas with more than 40 different attractions. You may also then need several days to explore the entire park. Where the park used to be mostly for older children, it is now also fun for younger children with the arrival of SesamoAventua. Here you will find only attractions that even the littlest ones are allowed in. The neighboring parks Ferrari Land and Port Aventua Caribe Aquatic Park are also great fun to visit. Also consider a combo ticket if you want to visit more than one park.
Camping Playa Montroig is a very large campsite with as many as 1,200 pitches, all in straight streets. There are five different pitch categories, from Standard Classic to Premium Plus. We will describe them further below: – Premium Plus: these are the absolute top spots of the campsite with direct view and access to the beach! Wake up to the waves as background noise and enjoy the endless view. It is a large spot of up to 120m2 and it has its own water and drainage point. In addition to 16A of electricity, the site also offers natural shade. – Premium Deluxe: with only a few meters to the beach, this is also a beautiful spot for your tent, caravan or camper (max. 100m2). Again, you have your own water and drainage point, 16A of electricity and natural shade. You’ll find these spots in zones A, B and parts of D and E (see map). – Premium Classic: these beautiful spots are just 50 meters from the beach and close to all facilities. The sites are up to 90m2 and have their own water and drainage point. Again, you have 16A of electricity and natural shade. You will find these spots in zones D and E (see Map). – Standard Deluxe: this standard place is up to 90m2 in size and are centrally located. You get 10A of electricity and you have plenty of natural shade. There is a shared water point in the alley. These spots are located in zones C and D2 (see Map). – Standard Classic: this is the most basic pitch in this campsite and has a size of up to 85m2. These places are also centrally located. There is natural shade and you have access to 10A. There is a shared water point in the alley. Spots can be found in zone G and some on F1 (see map). You book the pitches through Allcamps and LuxCamp. If you are staying at this campground for more than a few nights, we recommend choosing at least category Standard Deluxe. These spots are just a bit more spacious which means you are less close to other campers. You will have a just a bit more relaxed stay and enjoy it even more because of this. There are several bathroom facilities at the campground. The sanitary is of a very high standard and it looks very luxurious and modern. Attention has clearly been paid to the decoration and atmosphere. What is a big plus is the use of faucets for nice hot water. The very spacious showers also have a mixer tap so you don’t have to keep pressing a button. With plenty of hooks, a bench, a shelf for your shampoo and a trash can, attention has been paid to the details here, too. A number of sanitary buildings have special sanitary facilities for children and special care areas for toddlers. There are even separate family bathrooms; you need to pick up a key for these at the front desk. There are also ample dishwashing areas and many washing machines and dryers to be found throughout the campground.
Renting a mobile home or cottage at Camping Playa Montroig? We are happy to help you get started, as there are many different providers at this campground. All mobile homes of tour operators are together in zone F1, F2 and F3(see map). This is very organized and practical, but we personally like it better when there is more of a mix of accommodations and camping spots. If you are assigned an accommodation in zone F1 you are very close to all facilities. If you are in zone F3, the distances to the beach, for example, are a bit longer. Yet we did not experience the campground itself as large, this is because all the facilities are centrally located on the campground, so you don’t have to visit some parts of the campground at all. A train track runs alongside the campground. Some rental properties overlook this (Avenida Viena street). But know that no trains have been running on this track since 2020. So there is no (noise) nuisance from the trains, but you may not like the view.
The accommodations at Camping Playa Montroig itself are built to blend flawlessly with nature. With leafy vegetation and manicured gardens, you almost become one with nature here. Camping Playa Montroig’s accommodations are the only accommodations not listed by all other providers in Zone F. The Royal Palm Tree Villa can no longer really be called a mobile home, but more like a cottage of a whopping 50m2! The Royal Palm Tree Villa has 3 bedrooms and can accommodate 6 people. With a wood finish inside and out, this is truly a beautiful specimen. The Palm Tree Villa, which is the same size (50m2), can accommodate 4 people (2 bedrooms). This gives you an even larger living space compared to the Royal Palm Tree Villa. These accommodations are on very beautiful and attractively landscaped fields. The location is perfect (in Zone G), putting you very close to all facilities. The newest addition are the Sunset Villas. These very spacious 60m2 bungalows have 2 bedrooms and can accommodate 5 people. The Sunset Villas are located near the pools and are beautifully landscaped.
At Camping Playa Montroig, Homair has 2 types of caravans: the Comfort XL and the Premium Exclusive. The Comfort XL mobile homes are cheaper than the Premium Exclusive. They are about the same size, but because these are a bit older and less elaborately furnished it makes a difference in the price. The addition XL is for the large area of the mobile home, it is quite large at 33m2. The mobile home has 3 bedrooms (sleeps 6) and 1 bathroom. The Premium Exclusive are the newest mobile homes and more complete in terms of furnishings. For example, there is a TV and a dishwasher, which are not present in the Comfort XL. The Premium Exclusive is available with 2 or 3 bedrooms. Both variants can accommodate 6 people, but in the two-bedroom variant then two people will have to sleep on the sofa bed in the living room. The addition “Exclusive” means that final cleaning, bed linen and wifi for 1 device are included. Roan has 4 different types of mobile homes at Camping Playa Montroig: The Premium 2 (two bedrooms) and Premium 3 (3 bedrooms) are Roan’s cheapest mobile homes. The two-bedroom variant is the smaller variant (31m2) and can accommodate 4 people (plus possibly an extra person on the sofa bed). The 3-bedroom variant is larger (36m2) and thus can accommodate 6 people. The Premium Plus Lounge and Supreme Lounge are Roan’s more luxurious mobile homes. They both have 3 bedrooms for 6 people, plus possibly an extra person on the sofa bed in the living room. The Supreme Lounge is just slightly larger (37m2) than the Prestige Lounge (35m2). The Supreme Lounge also has a larger terrace (of a whopping 24m2) than the Prestige Lounge (17m2). Both fine accommodations with a nice corner sofa on the terrace, but if you want the most luxurious experience with, say, an Auping bed and hanging chair on the terrace, choose the Supreme Lounge. At Eurocamps you can choose from 2 different mobile homes at Camping Playa Montroig: the Aspect and the Azure. These are the two most luxurious mobile homes in Eurocamp’s range. The more basic Comfort and Classic types, which you can find at many other campsites, are not present at this campground. In other words, at Eurocamp you are provided with a modern mobile home anyway. The Azure mobile home comes in 4 different variants. In fact, you can choose between 2 or 3 bedrooms, and Azure or Azure Plus. That Plus variant is just a bit more modern/luxurious than the Azure and have a fresh/modern look. The Plus variant also features a dishwasher and additional French doors to the terrace. The Aspect is Eurocamp’s most luxurious mobile home. This one is very large (40m2) and has 3 bedrooms for 6 people. The finish is modern and comfortable. The garden furniture looks very neat and is on an additional wooden terrace. Included with the Aspect are linens, towels and, of course, a dishwasher. At the Azure you will have to bring your own bedding or rent it extra. Kelair’s accommodations are in zone F3. They offer 3 types of mobile homes: Mercure Loggia is a 26m2 mobile home with 2 bedrooms. Technically suitable for 6 people, with one child sleeping in an oversize bed in one bedroom, and another person in the living room on the sofa bed. Do you want something more spacious? Then choose the Cordelia, with an area of 32m2 and 3 bedrooms it is better suited for 6 people. Apollo is Kelair’s largest mobile home. It has an area of 38m2 with 3 bedrooms, making it very suitable for 6 people. Compared to the Cordelia, this Apollo mobile home has another second bathroom. With Vacanceselect to Camping Playa Montroig? They have 2 nice type of mobile homes available for you: ‘Cosy’ mobile homes are the smaller 2 bedroom mobile homes for 4 people. There is also an “upgrade” version available, which has an oversize bed for a child and a sofa bed in the living room, allowing it to be used for up to 6 people instead of 4. Stacavaravan “Moda” has an area of 30 – 35m² and can accommodate 6 people with 3 bedrooms (1x double bed, 4x single bed). Two variants of type Moda are available, the difference being that the more expensive version has an extra bathroom. If you love swimming, then Camping Playa Montroig is a true paradise! With a large swimming pool “Garden Pool,” a spray park “Splash Pool” and, of course, the adjacent beach, you can have hours of fun here. The beautifully landscaped pool is located in a beautiful garden, with many (palm) trees and sunbathing lawns. There are four different pools, including a fun children’s pool with play equipment. The six slides are very nicely integrated into the rocks and guarantee lots of water fun. There are also waterfalls and the pools are heated so you can always enjoy them. We always found a place to lay down our towels on the sunbathing lawns. Because the lawns are artificial grass, it looks very sleek (and your towels won’t get dirty either). One drawback, however, is that there are no sunbeds available and there is also quite little shade. If you feel like a drink or an ice cream, you can walk straight to the large pool bar. We immediately noticed that the prices here were very reasonable compared to other campsites in the area. Tables and chairs are available if you want to sit for a while. At least one lifeguard is present at each pool and a lifeguard is also on site at the slides. They keep a keen eye on the pool. Balls and inflatable attributes are not allowed in the pool. There is no requirement to wear a swim cap and swim shorts are allowed. The pool is completely fenced: by using the chip in your wristband, you gain access to the pool. So your children can’t just come near the pool, which gives a safe feeling. Splash Pool This incredibly fun spray park is the place for hours of fun in the water and can rightly be called a water playground. With a depth of only 30 cm, almost all children can have carefree fun here. So there is everything from a pirate boat with swivel steering wheel, a mini slide, a family slide and an indoor slide to explore. The big bucket that fills with water and then tips over is really fun for all ages! All the squirts of water can also move and thus wet others. We were able to relax on one of the many (reclining) chairs provided while keeping an eye on our children. Therefore, it is not very crowded and everyone can play freely. Here you will also find a bar where you can get a drink or ice cream. The Splash Pool is not part of the main pool so it is not next to each other. You have to choose whether to go to the pool or to her spray park. The Splash Pool is fenced but the entrance is not locked. Beach The campground is located directly on the beautiful sandy beach of Playa Dorada, which is a very big plus of this campground. The long sandy beach is accessible through the entire length of the campground, about 1 kilometer. A beach bar (“Tucanamar”) is also available. You can come here all day and evening for a cocktail, milkshake or fresh juice. There is a small selection of different tapas or choose a nice cold ice cream. There is a jetty available for (small) boats and jet skis, or to walk into the sea. You can also play beach volleyball, kayak or just swim. There is a raft in the water to jump from. Or go for a walk along the waterfront; you’ll naturally come across other beach bars where you can take a break. Because there are many pebbles in the water, it is not so easy to walk into the sea. Therefore, water shoes are not unnecessary as far as we are concerned. And depending on where your accommodation is located, it may be a bit of a walk to the beach. But if you choose camping spot Premium Plus, you will be right on the beach with your tent, caravan or motorhome, with a view that never gets boring!
There are two restaurants at the campground, as well as several bars where you can have a drink. The Espai Grill restaurant is located at the front of the campground near the reception desk. This restaurant is only open in the evening, from 7 p.m. onward. It has a large indoor garden with a terrace but you can also dine inside. It is nicely decorated and the service was very friendly and spoke good English. There is plenty of choice in terms of dishes, think fish, meat and wood oven pizza. The steak there was delicious! Children have a choice of children’s menus. Also be sure to keep a spot for one of the delicious desserts. If you just want a drink, you can do so at the Espai Cocktail Bar & Chill Out. At night, performances are also held here. This bar is part of the Espai Grill restaurant. The other restaurant is the Terrassa restaurant and it is located at the plaza in the heart of the campground. This restaurant is open all day for coffee and cake, ice cream, lunch or dinner. The terrace overlooks the Hobby Club and a little bit of the plaza itself. The menu is very extensive with a wide selection of dishes. Once again, we had a delicious meal there. The decoration in this restaurant is quite standard and it is also quite noisy. There are also TV screens present, for example for sports games. The service here spoke English a little less well, but help was fetched if needed. For both restaurants, you can make reservations through the campsite’s special app. If you don’t feel like cooking, there is also a take-away available. Tropical bar “Tucanamar” on the beach has a nice view of the sea, you are just barely sitting here with your feet in the sand. From noon until late at night you can enjoy a fresh juice, a cocktail or one of the tapas here. But one of the ice cream sundaes is also highly recommended! Above the Terrassa restaurant, right on the plaza, you will find cocktail bar Pai Pai. We found it quite unique that there is a real cocktail bar on the campsite! With a nice beach theme and matching decor, you can enjoy a delicious cocktail or a cold beer here. At night it becomes a disco ‘light’, with performances or fun family games. Even later in the evening, a DJ often performs. If you want to dance the night away, you can do so at Camping Playa Montroig! Next to the Grill restaurant is the Rock & Roll Disco Lounge. From 11 p.m. until the early hours, you can go wild here to music from a DJ or one of the special (theme) parties.
There is a very great offer from the animation team. There is a special miniclub program for young children (ages 4 to 8). Think crafts, painting and games. There is a special area for the mini-club, near the plaza in the center of the campground. Parents should leave their information so they can be contacted if needed. There is a maxiclub program for children ages 9 to 12, and it often takes place in the hobby center, right on the plaza. There will be courses, dart competitions, Harry Potter Magic lessons, padel lessons and much more! For teens (ages 13 to 17), there is a special teen program with various sports, such as basketball, soccer, ping pong and snorkeling. They can also chill in The Loft by playing billiards, darts or watching movies together. But there is something for every age. For example, there is an extensive sports program. Think Zumba and Body Combat classes on the plaza; these are really serious classes! But also consider padel, soccer, (beach) volleyball and aqua gym in the large pool. We also found the evening program very extensive because there are activities or performances in several places. For example, at the Tropical Bar there is live music, on the plaza you have a large stage where performances take place, such as an acrobat or magic show and concerts. The mini-disco also takes place here a few times a week. At the cocktail bar Pai Pai, you can sing karaoke, play bingo or poker. At night, you can party at the cocktail bar Pai Pai or go to the disco.
Your good intentions and exercise routine need not fade away during your vacation at Playa Montroig, as there is a multitude of sports options. There is a large sports center which consists of 3 soccer fields, a sports field (soccer, handball, etc), three tennis courts, two padel courts and a basketball court. Most of these sports fields are on opposite sides of the road though, which makes it not so inviting to go there because it is quite a bit of a walk. It looks very well cared for. The fitness center is located next to the pool and consists of two floors: a cardio room and a gym. On the beach, you can kayak, play beach volleyball, beach soccer and snorkel. If you have your own sup, be sure to bring it! And of course, do not forget the already mentioned sports classes organized by the animation team, such as Zumba, Body Combat and Aquagym. There is also an on-site diving school. If you’ve never dived before, you can experience your first dive here and even take a PADI course. If you are already more experienced, you can rent your equipment here and explore the underwater world of the Mediterranean. The newly renovated mini-golf course is next to the pool and there is a gamehall at the plaza. And, of course, there are also several table tennis tables to be found. The campground has several bike routes for road bikes or mountain bikes. Combine a route along the Mediterranean or in the mountains, for example, the La Vuelta climb Coll de Fatxes. There is a special bike storage area for campground guests, with even a laundry room for your bike. At the front desk they will be happy to help you with a nice bike route. In The Loft, you can play billiards or darts, as well as a game of foosball. Films are also shown here every day. Or chill out on one of the couches.
Once you arrive at Playa Montroig Camping Resort, you won’t have to leave the campground for your shopping. Because you can really go here for all your shopping. In the large supermarket you will find a wide range of products, including fresh (baguettes), coffee, spreads, spirits to frozen foods. A butcher for delicious fresh meat is also available. For fresh fish go to the fish store, which is open every morning. There is also a croissant shop where you can buy your fresh rolls in the morning or one of the delicious sweet breads. There is also a bodega where you can buy wine from the region, such as that of Priorat. And then you also have the souvenir store. Here you will find not only souvenirs and toys, but also practical (camping) items, such as (bath) clothes, magazines, pans, can openers, etc. At the ice cream parlor, buy delicious scoop ice cream or a delicious fresh waffle. The ice cream parlor is open from 4 p.m. to night. If you want a nice scoop of ice cream during the day, you’ll find it at the Terrassa restaurant. The candy stand in the plaza is very tempting with a large selection of tasty sweets. All stores are centered around the plaza, in the middle of the campground. There is even a playground available, so your child can play for a while while you store. If you do prefer to go to a larger supermarket, you will find the first one about 3km away. A Lidl can be found a 10-minute drive away.
Camping Playa Montroig is really a beautifully landscaped campsite with a lovely tropical atmosphere courtesy of all the (palm) trees. In addition, it is very nice that the campground has a special app where you can find all the information you need. And where you can also place a reservation for the restaurants. Wearing a wristband is mandatory for everyone. This also gives you access to the pool. A doctor is on site every day. You don’t have to make an appointment for this, you just walk in during opening hours. On (national) holidays, the doctor may not be present. At the front of the campsite you will find a charging point for an electric car. Wifi is free all over the campsite. The campground is well equipped for the disabled. A car wash is available, the price is from €1.
