Location and environment

From the highway, you arrive at Camping Vilanova Park fairly quickly. Upon arrival, you will receive a friendly welcome and be personally escorted to your camping spot or accommodation. That’s kind of nice because it’s a big campground. The campground is in the middle of nature and has quite a bit of elevation change. At the top of the campground you will find one of the two outdoor pools and here you will have a beautiful view of the surroundings and with the sea in the background. There is plenty of shade at the park, which is nice with the hot Spanish summers.

One of the attractions of Camping Vilanova Park is its location in relation to Barcelona. Just 50 km away you are in the heart of this metropolis. Visit the Sagrada Familia, stroll along the Ramblas, take a look at the largest and most famous fresh food market Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria right on the Ramblas or visit Camp Nou, FC Barcelona’s stadium. It’s actually too much to see in one day, but the city is so close that you can go there a few times. Every morning a bus leaves from the campsite and in the early evening it will also take you back to the campsite. If you prefer to go by car, of course that’s possible too. Keep in mind that you need a special environmental sticker to drive in Barcelona. More information on this can be found at the ANWB, among others.

Closer by is the pleasant village of Sitges, about 13 km away. This city, on the shores of the Mediterranean, is known as the Saint Tropez of Spain. In summer, it is a popular vacation destination among the jet set. In the small, historic center you will find several restaurants and bars. And on the beach you can enjoy the sun and the sea.
Or visit the beautiful Roman city of Tarragona. Known for monuments and ruins from Roman times, this city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The world-famous Amphitheater with a beautiful seaside location is the highlight of the city. But also consider the chapel of the Mare de Déu de la Roca. Not only is the chapel beautiful, the view is breathtaking. You reach this chapel via a special staircase with a wooden handrail.

Furthermore, near the campsite you will find one of Europe’s largest amusement parks, PortAventura. The park consists of six impressive themed areas with more than 40 different attractions. For younger children, they now also have a separate themed area, SésamoAvontura. Here you will find only attractions that even the smaller children can enter. But where older children will also have a great time!

Pitches

At Camping Vilanova Park there is a nice combination of camping pitches and rental accommodations. Pitches are spread over several areas of the campground, with rental accommodations surrounding them. They are all spacious sites with gravel as the bottom. Most sites are separated with bushes and do have some natural shade. This can vary a lot from place to place, though. Camping spots are still available in high season as well. When we were there in late July, there were still several free available spots.

There are two types of pitches, namely the Parcela Standard and Parcela Plus. The Standard spot is between 70-75m2 and is not suitable for caravans longer than 5.30 meters. The Plus spots measure from 90m2. Both sites allow 6 people and have 6A of electricity.
The other difference between the two pitches is that Parcela Plus also has its own water point and a water drainage point. On the campground map, pitches are abbreviated as P. Standard and P. Plus. However, you cannot see the exact spot.
Please note that just outside the campground (south, near zones G & F see map) is a sawmill. This can bother you in some areas of the campground, as they start work early in the morning during the week.

There are three large washrooms at the campground. The toilets and showers each have their own entrance. In the toilet building there is natural light and many toilets. In addition, there are many sinks, all have their own space with a large mirror. Despite the faucet, we only had hot water there.
Next to the toilet room is an area where the showers are located. There are more than enough of these as well. In high season, we never had to wait for a shower. You don’t need tokens to shower, so you can take unlimited showers.
Both the toilets, sinks and showers are cleaned several times a day. It all looks neat. You may have to walk a bit from your camping spot to the sanitary building.

The large sanitary building also has a separate room with dishwashing areas. There are lots of dishwashing spots and you have nice hot/hot water quickly. Behind the dishwashing area you will find the laundry room with many sinks to do a hand wash. There are also special tables where you can iron. If you prefer not to wash by hand, there are also washing machines at Camping Vilanova Park. There are two rooms where you will find washing machines and clothes dryers. You can buy chips for the machines at the boutique; the 10-kilo washing machine costs €5.50 and the dryer €3.50.

Swimming

At Camping Vilanova Park, water fun is guaranteed. There are two large pools at the campground, the largest of which is at the top of the campground. The pool has a beautiful view of the forests and the Mediterranean Sea. There is a large swimming pool where you can play nicely, the water is quite warm. There is also a separate children’s pool with a slide and a water mushroom. The slides can also be found here. The kids will have hours of fun here! When you get to the top of the slides, you also have a great view of the surrounding area. The slides are separate from the pool and there is a private lifeguard on duty. The pool is surrounded by a huge sunbathing area that includes shaded areas. Despite the crowds, there was always a lounger available. There is also a bar, with a large terrace, for a nice cold drink or ice cream.

The second pool is located at the bottom of the campground, next to the restaurant and near the entrance. This is also a very spacious pool and there is a separate children’s pool here as well. Around the pool is a spacious sunbathing area with sun beds. You will also find a small bar for a cold drink or ice cream.

The third pool is part of the wellness center at Camping Vilanova Park. This heated pool with outdoor terrace is accessible only for a fee (€10). It is mandatory to wear a swim cap here. It is great to relax in the sauna, jacuzzi or Turkish bath. Furthermore, you can go here for a wonderful massage (€30 – €50), exfoliation, a manicure or a pedicure (from €7).

If you want to go to the beach, you can catch the bus that leaves just outside the campground. In 10 minutes you are on the beach. By car is also possible, of course, but note that it is paid parking. A variety of water sports are available, such as windsurfing, sailing or jet skiing.

Restaurants

There is a great restaurant at this campground. This is located on the square where the mini disco and evening shows are also located. So you can dine here while the kids are dancing. Some of the seating is on the main plaza, overlooking the pool. At night, fountains turn on in the pool, which are colored with lights. This is next to the lower pool. There is plenty of choice for everyone: from paella, pasta, pizza to various meat and fish dishes. There is a separate dessert menu, including special desserts for children. You can dine inside or outside, or have a drink. If you want to be sure of a table, you can make a reservation but it will be for a table inside the restaurant. There is free Wifi at the restaurant.

As mentioned earlier, at the pools you will also find a bar where you can buy some small snacks, such as a bag of chips or an ice cream. There is also a take-out counter for such things as fried chicken, pizza and fries. This counter is located between the boutique and the restaurant.

Animation

There is an extensive entertainment program at Camping Vilanova Park. Upon arrival you will receive the program and there is something for everyone. The mini-club is for smaller children and has a daily program consisting of three meetings. Activities take place at the MiniClub, which is located nearby between the pool and the supermarket. Activities such as puzzles, games, face painting and painting are offered here.

Every evening at 7 p.m. there is a clown or hula hoop show on the large terrace, next to the restaurant. The mini-disco starts at 9 p.m. and lasts about 45 minutes. The animation team actively participates on stage themselves.
After the mini-disco is over, a big evening show begins at 10 p.m. and lasts about 1.5 hours. There is a varied program of flamenco dancers, African dance, a rock band and a tribute band to Michael Jackson, for example. The large terrace fills up and you can buy drinks at the restaurant or at the additional bar on the terrace, which is open only during the evening program.

Many sports activities are organized during the day. In the pool there are daily water games, aqua gym and aqua fitness. In addition, through a screen, Zumba classes are held in the main plaza. And the sports zone hosts soccer, basketball and volleyball games.
We found the only downside of the entertainment team to be the lack of a Dutch-speaking team member.

If you booked a mobile home through Eurocamp, a separate entertainment team is available. They have set up a FunStation where they perform various activities, such as painting t-shirts. This looked like a very nice, small, animation team with lots of attention to your child. You can rent Eurocamp accommodation through the Allcamps website.

Sports & Recreation

Various sports tournaments and lessons are organized every day by the animation team. For example, every morning you can take a Zumba class in the large square by the restaurant and there are various water activities in the pool at the top of the campsite.

There is a large sports area with several sports fields at Camping Vilanova Park. You can play soccer, volleyball, basketball and more here. This is also where the sports tournaments are held. There is also a miniature golf course and several table tennis tables. In addition, there are two tennis courts at the front of the campground. If you are more of a fitness type, there is a fitness room by the indoor pool. Please note that the fitness room does come with a fee.

Near the large pool at the top of the campground, you will find a large playground and a large bouncy castle. It is very unfortunate that you have to pay for the bouncy castle (€2 for 15 minutes). Additionally, we thought it was a missed opportunity that there were not more (smaller) playgrounds across the campground. For a large campground like this, the number of playgrounds is really quite limited. Where we were standing, there was no playground nearby. So the children could not get out to play and meet other children.

If you want to explore the area by bike, you can rent bikes at the campground.

Stores

There is a supermarket, where you can buy fresh bread and sweet rolls every day. There is also a very wide assortment to do your daily shopping. The supermarket, even in high season, is closed at noon. This is something to consider, though. About 5 km from the campsite you will find several supermarkets, including a Lidl and Aldi.

There is also a separate boutique at the campground for toys, swimming gear and souvenirs. This is the place to be for tickets to the bus, wellness center and washing machines. You can also buy Wifi credit here, as it is not free at this campground. Costs of Wi-Fi in 2022 were as follows:
– 2 hours: €2.
– 6 hours: €5.
– 10 hours: €9.
– 1 week: €20
