The sprawling family campground Manor Farm has a truly beautiful location. Among the Swiss mountains, on Lake Thuner and overlooking the breathtaking Eiger mountain: these are the Alps at their very finest. Thanks to that Thuner lake, there are also numerous water sports possibilities, so an active vacation here is guaranteed. Manor Farm is divided into two parts by a road, but a small tunnel provides you with a skin-tight crossing. The water is lovely, the surroundings beautiful and really invites you to bike or hike. The campground is near the village of Interlaken, which, in turn, is right on Lake Brienzersee. These two lakes are connected by the small river Aare. This five-star campsite is full of deciduous and coniferous trees, accommodations can be found centrally and also by the lake.
In the middle of the Swiss Alps and within easy driving distance of, for example, Bern, Lucerne or Thun: Camping Manor Farm has an ideal location. Near the very nice town of Interlaken, near beautiful mountains and of course the two lakes Thunersee and Brienzersee. The nice thing is that there is free bus, boat and train traffic here, so you can easily go in all directions. A trip on Lake Thuner on a classic radar boat is more than worth it, and you’ll see all those beautiful mountain massifs from a whole different angle. There are several cable cars in the area, which offer you beautiful views. By the way: if it is a bit chilly for swimming and the need is really there anyway: in Interlaken there is a swimming pool, which is free for camping guests to visit. Lake Thuner gets deep pretty quickly, so for little ones at least, this is a good idea. Also in the area: the Giessbach waterfalls, the Jungfrau massif (over 4,000 meters high!) and Jungfraujoch, the very highest train station in all of Europe.
This is a Swiss campsite and then you can actually assume: this campsite is taken care of to perfection. Camping Manor Farm has 280 pitches and they are located among lots of greenery. At least all the pitches are grass, so when you look up at the stars or at Eiger Mountain later, at least you’ll be lying softly. As already indicated, the campground is divided into two parts, the “upper” and the “lower” part. The two parts are connected by a pleasant little tunnel, but from the top it is still quite a walk to the lake.
Do you choose a spot right on the lake or do you prefer to stand among the woods? The variety of accommodations is great, as is the choice of where you stand. The campground itself rents out tents, bungalows and seventy different mobile homes. Through other providers, you get additional choices. All cottages contain everything necessary for a successful vacation. The funny thing is: you’re in the Alps. Can you see yourself in such an idyllic wooden shelter?
Camping Manor Farm is located directly on Lake Thuner, among the high mountains. The campground offers four private beaches on the lake, specifically for campground guests. There is a good deal of water sports on offer, including fishing, surfing, canoeing and swimming. A good chance the kids will soon become hooked on feeding the ducks here, which add to the idyllic character. And constantly those huge behemoths of mountains around you: if that’s not a fairy tale? Directly on the beach is a sunbathing area and via a swimming jetty you reach the water. For toddlers: pay a little attention, the water gets deep quickly here. You can also choose to go to Interlaken’s large and heated outdoor pool. For camping guests, this pool is free, and in addition, public transportation (the boat!) to Interlaken is also free.
Camping Manor Farm offers two restaurants: Restaurant Pizzeria Landhaus and Restaurant Neuhaus Zum See. The first, of course, offers Italian cuisine, with pasta and pizza. The second focuses more on this region and is also beautifully situated on the lake itself. Both restaurants are located on the property a considerable distance from each other. On the waterfront is also the Laguna Beach Bar. Only drinks are available here, and this place is open in the summer months only when the weather is dry.
At the campground there is a fine playground. There is sometimes a mini-club in high season, but in terms of animation there is not much to do at this campsite, which focuses mainly on the lake and the beautiful surroundings. Of course, there is more than enough to do and undertake there as well. The campsite itself is particularly child-friendly, children can play here in complete safety.
At the campsite there are several sports fields and you can play table tennis, mini-golf and there is bicycle rental, for example. This area lends itself perfectly to getting out on your two-wheeler and fully enjoying the natural wonders of this place. There is a large playground and, of course, you can swim and engage in other water sports activities here to your heart’s content. Along the shore are several fishing spots. You can also windsurf and water ski here. Not far from the campground you can play golf and ride a pony.
The campground offers an extensive camp store where basically everything you need is available. For some larger groceries, there is a Lidl nearby. There are several stores in Interlaken where you can get your fix. Larger cities such as Bern and Lucerne are also well located nearby and are known for their shopping offerings.
Take advantage of free public transportation, including the boat and behold the splendor of the Alps from the water. The train that takes you to Jungfraujoch will take you to high places, full of snow-capped peaks. The Giessbach waterfalls are about a 45-minute drive away -with delightful u-turns for the last few miles- and are incredibly spectacular. The almost impassable Alps become passable if you take Camping Manor Farm as your base: from here you can again go in all directions and further explore what is perhaps Europe’s most beautiful mountain range.
