If you don’t have your own caravan or tent, of course you choose a furnished tent. You then have a wonderful camping feeling, without having to haul your own gear. There’s also a lot to choose from in furnished tents these days, we’d love to tell you about all the options!
Why a furnished tent?
Let’s face it, how nice is it to arrive at a Dutch campsite and everything is already waiting for you? The biggest advantage actually starts at home: you hardly have to pack anything. Compare that to a tent of your own, that quickly saves half a car’s worth of luggage! Once you arrive, your furnished tent is all set up. You throw your suitcase in a corner and plop down in your easy chair. Your bed is already ready and the refrigerator is already nice and cold. Many people therefore choose a furnished tent. It is a luxurious form of camping, but one that retains the real camping feeling.
Why rent a furnished tent in the Netherlands?
Why travel far when your own country has so much beauty to offer? Your vacation days are best when you have very little travel time. Surely a car vacation to southern Europe will cost you at least two extra travel days. Flying is also possible, of course, but that is again less good for the environment and your wallet.
The Netherlands has beautiful natural areas, such as the Veluwe, the Biesbosch, the Wadden Islands and De Sallandse Heuvelrug. You can enjoy hiking or biking here. Types of furnished tents
A decade or so ago, a “furnished tent” was a bungalow tent as we have known it for years. Nowadays, there are increasingly luxurious tents such as safari tents and lodge tents. All types of tents are already fully furnished, yet there are differences which we will explain to you below.
Bungalow tent
A bungalow tent is a furnished tent that we have known for years in the Netherlands. This furnished tent usually sleeps 6 people and has 2 or 3 bedrooms. The size of the tent is usually the same. Only in a two-bedroom bungalow tent do the bedroom doors open into a sort of “corridor” between the two bedrooms. A three-bedroom bungalow tent has no corridor; the doors open into the living room. The bedrooms have fixed beds. These rental tents are always equipped with furniture, a small kitchen and a refrigerator. Furnishings vary by provider, so pay attention to this when choosing your accommodation. Also pay close attention to whether there are fixed closets for storing your clothes.

Safari tent
A safari tent is a luxury tent that has become very popular in recent years. And for good reason: you’re still camping, but in a luxurious way (aka glamping). A safari tent is tent with African looks and built on wooden decks. It also has a wooden terrace. The dimensions of a safari tent are larger than a bungalow tent. The furnishings are more atmospheric and luxurious than a bungalow tent. The beds are often better, some even have luxury box spring and there is a fine terrace equipped with more luxurious garden furniture. In addition, you increasingly see safari tents equipped with private bathrooms! Therefore, the prices are of safari tents are a bit higher than a bungalow tent, for example. Lodgetent
Tips for furnished tents in the Netherlands
The difference between a safari tent and a lodge tent is not really clear. Providers use different definitions for this purpose, and the terms are used interchangeably. They are also sometimes grouped together (e.g. glamping, or safari lodge tents). With most providers, the difference is that Lodgetents come with their own sanitary facilities (toilet and bathroom). Also, lodge tents look more like a cottage than a tent, such as the above photos of the a lodge tent at Camping Gulperberg in Limburg.
